Senior Cloud Engineer

C- Quest Capital LLC (CQC) is a social impact investor and project developer that specializes in climate finance.  As a leader in providing renewable energy production whose mission is to transform the lives of last-mile families in developing countries by providing access to clean and sustainable energy services that in turn improve the health and wellbeing of women and children. CQC was founded in 2008 and is a global company headquartered in Washington DC, USA with subsidiaries in India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Cambodia, and on-ground teams in our countries of operation in Sub-Saharan Africa.

We have active investments in over 25 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, Central America, and South and East Asia that have thus far improved the lives of over 20 million people.

CQC employs over 160 full-time staff of investment, project management, and carbon professionals based around the world including Washington DC, India, Malaysia, Cambodia, Malawi, and Zambia. In addition, we regularly draw on a pool of individual consultants, collaborating NGO and private sector partners and staff of our joint venture partners.

Role and Responsibilities: In this role, you will collaborate with the internal IT team to architect, engineer, configure, and deploy enterprise systems and services in CQC’s cloud providers (primarily AWS). You will be part of a team of engineers that support global operations for the company including mobile applications, public web applications, desktop applications, and internal microservices. You will have the freedom to evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies and solutions to meet the needs of the company. You don’t have all the answers, but you know where to look and how to efficiently evaluate solutions against stakeholder requirements. Working with your new IT team, you will help ensure modern data privacy and security standards are incorporated into, deployed throughout, and monitored in our architecture. You will have support from the IT team and manager, and direct input into timelines and feasibility.

Location:

100% remote with possible exception of 1-2 weeks of onboarding; Washington, DC area; US accepted.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform assigned work independently
  • Proactively reach out to team for input and guidance when needed
  • Manage and complete multiple concurrent projects within given timelines
  • Provide accurate time and effort estimates for own work
  • Identify technical problems/issues and areas for improvement
  • Research and propose technical solutions to development and automation problems
  • Stay current on AWS managed services and advise IT leadership on services that will enhance security, efficiency, and application performance
  • Expected to participate in design and architectural discussions
  • Maintain internal technical documentation for technical staff

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience developing and implementing policies for the use of AWS cloud services, managing requests for new technology, establishing a secure cloud environment, and ensuring appropriate availability of services
  • Experience with infrastructure as code solutions (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Implementation and continuous improvement for logging, monitoring, and alerting solutions for network activity, resource usage, and production services
  • Experience with compute infrastructure (servers, databases, firewalls, load balancers) and maintaining production-grade systems in cloud environments
  • Experience with container orchestration services (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Git version control for code (e.g., git, GitLab, GitHub)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the engineering team, perform requirements gathering, and produce technical user-facing documentation
  • Ability to work and troubleshoot independently and communicate proactively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Additional Relevant Skills:

  • Experience in environments with distributed systems, particularly distributed databases
  • GitLab or GitHub project management tools (e.g., epics, milestones, issues)
  • Work in agile development environments, specifically Kanban and Scrum methodologies
  • Relevant AWS Certifications (DevOps Engineer, Cloud Practitioner, Security)
