Senior Business Development Associate

We are looking for an experienced MEL Consultant to join our growing team in Washington DC to take ownership of implementing business development activities alongside programme management delivery.

The Candiate

You will be adaptable, self-motivated, and have a proven track record in taking on new tasks and reprioritizing at short notice. Strong communication and organization skills are a given including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships virtually with team members based at Itad’s parent office in the UK.   Your international development skills will have been gained over the past 5 years primarily focused around:

  • Business development experience in humanitarian aid, emergency assistance, or a similar sector

  • Successful track record in bid management or co-ordination for proposals including USAID, US Government donors, UN agencies, INGOs and the World Bank

  • Experience of leading business development activities, including identifying opportunities, consortium building/partner outreach, recruiting personnel, preparing compliance and cost materials, assisting with the development of technical language, etc. required.

  • Technical and/or operational experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), ideally in one or more of the following sectors: global health, sexual reproductive health, humanitarian aid, ICT4D/Digital development, inclusive growth and livelihoods, and climate change.

  • Experience providing backstopping support during project implementation, including client and consultant invoicing and logistics planning

  • Strong English language communication skills- writing, speaking and reading is essential

  • Strong interpersonal skills which you have used to build and manage relationships with colleagues, clients and teams in different time zones and cultures.

The role

The primary focus of this role will be focused on Business Development (around 80%).  However, as a small dynamic team, there will also be a need to step into a Project Management role when required.

Business Development

  • Help identify opportunities and track opportunities in Itad’s BD portfolio management tool.
  • Conduct competitive landscape analysis and research on relevant topics to support proposal preparation.
  • Assist with outreach to partners and the recruitment of personnel for proposals.
  • Lead in preparing materials for proposals including: compliance materials, cost items, technical language (with support from Itad colleagues), past performance materials, personnel items, etc.
  • For bids Itad primes, lead in preparing the proposal and manage requests to subcontractors for proposal materials.
  • Work closely with the Business Development Coordinator in the UK and Itad’s Deputy Director and other colleagues.
  • Prepare and review contractual documents related to implementing/consortium partners, including non-disclosure agreements, teaming agreements, Letters of Intent and sub-contracting agreements.
  • Ensure proposals are presented and finalized to meet Itad standards
  • Maintain a broad understanding of trends and donor priorities in the international development sector through participation in industry events, pre-solicitation meetings, and business forecast calls and internal business development strategy meetings, as well as meetings with Itad’s partners.

Project Management

Support on the development of research reports, evaluations etc.

  • Support invoicing processes with clients, partners and consultants, including requesting invoices from consultants and partners, reviewing timesheets, and submitting invoices to clients.
  • Assist with logistics and planning, including scheduling of meetings/calls, booking travel, etc.
  • Conduct due diligence on external consultants and new partners in accordance with Itad guidelines and standards.
  • Prepare new project descriptions for Itad’s website.
  • Liaise with relevant staff to ensure adherence to corporate safeguarding, privacy, business ethics, and other policies throughout project management processes.

The salary for this role is between USD$60 – 70K depending on your experience.  We also offer 20 days paid holiday, 10 days paid sick leave and a company matched pension contribution of 5%.  We also offer an ICHRA to a fixed amount of up to $600 per month for certain qualifying health care expenses including premiums.
