Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) sits at the nexus of participatory mapping, community-led development, humanitarian response, open data and tech. With a talented and diverse team spread around the globe.
HOT is an NGO which supports a dynamic global community of thousands of dedicated volunteers using maps and open data for humanitarian response and the Sustainable Development Goals. Working with humanitarian and development partners like the Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières, UN agencies, governments and others, the HOT community maps in solidarity with those affected by or at risk of disaster, contributing the maps and data aid workers need to do their lifesaving work.
About West & Northern Africa - Hub (WNAH)
The WNAH is one of four regional open mapping hubs opened in March 2022, powered by the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team. The purpose of the WNAH is to serve the OpenStreetMap movement in the West and Northern Africa region, providing decentralized support and services to the OpenStreetMap movement; powering the evolution and growth of OpenStreetMap data and community ecosystems in the region and maximizing the impact of both for improved humanitarian and social impact.
About the Role:
The Senior Associate, Strategic Partnership will work closely with the Regional Director and the Senior Manager at the Hub to provide research and strategic support for regional fundraising activities.
The job holder will research prospective donors for HOT. S/he will lead varied partnership activities, engagements, projects, and other related programmes. They will also support the Senior Manager and Partnership team in the region in managing different partnerships and open mapping projects, and support to build new ones as HOT’s portfolio grows.
Responsibilities:
- Donor Research Management:
- Conduct comprehensive research on potential donors, partners, and funding opportunities for the Hub
- Analyse donor landscapes to identify new partnership opportunities
- Prepare detailed profiles and briefing documents on prospective partners and donors towards increasing funding opportunities
- Track activity in CRM
- Partnership Management Support:
- Draft donor emails for the Regional Director, schedule meetings with potential donors, invite to HOT events
- Prep Regional Director and the Senior Manager for donor engagements by preparing meeting agendas and briefing documents.
- Research and prepare draft talking points and slide decks using Google Slides for donor/partner meetings
- Review presentations created by team members,
- Document meeting notes/minutes using Google documents and the CRM
- Track follow-up actions, communicate, and remind action owners, to support relationship development and donor stewardship
- Business Relationship Management
- Write and project manage high quality proposal submissions (less than $100K) & fee for service contracts, including tracking timelines and requesting timely input.
- Work with colleagues across time zones to schedule team, internal staff, and external partner meetings
- Triage external requests for meetings and work with team and partners to arrange
- Join internal meetings and external partnership meetings and lead on taking meeting notes / minutes
- In lead up to conference and external event attendance from other team-members support with administration and planning
- Support Regional Hub Partnerships team in research and material development
- Help with content for partnerships related communications e.g. summarizing content to communications team for delivery
- Reviewing copy for documents, comms, presentations, proposals, etc;
- Conduct background research to support new partnership opportunities
- Liaise with program staff to understand success stories from previous program implementation
- Support the design of programs that donors would want to fund (*learnings from Annual Planning*)
Qualifications and experience
Essential
- Outstanding English language written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of 5 years experience
- Proficient in virtual collaboration tools like Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and CRM
- Experience scheduling meetings across multiple time-zones and groups
- Excellent research experience and presentation skills
- Ultra-organized and have demonstrated experience with improving your workplace’s organization
- Mindset & ways of working: proactive, flexible (across time zones), a team player, open to learning and supporting new tasks
Role Specific Skills
- Track record of working in diverse, international, and virtual office environments
- Ability to identify challenges, asks strategic questions, spots knowledge gaps and ask for support as required

- Good verbal and written language ability in French
- Understanding of, or experience working or volunteering with, the non-profit sector

- Interest in humanitarian open mapping, Missing Maps, YouthMappers, or other OSM ecosystem
