About Fish Forever
Over the past 50 years, Rare has implemented global behavior change campaigns to support conservation initiatives. Currently, it is implementing a multi-country program called Fish Forever focused on coastal fisheries and communities in Brazil, Federated States of Micronesia, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Mozambique, Palau, and the Philippines. Fish Forever is a global program delivered locally with the goal of improving fishery productivity, profitability, and sustainability while also boosting livelihoods, protecting habitats, and enhancing coastal resilience to climate change.
Since 2014, Rare Indonesia has used behavior-centered design to help build the agency and capacity of fishing communities to address coastal fishing challenges and adopt more responsible fishing behaviors. To do this, we have created a suite of tools that enable fisheries data collection; developed fisheries management bodies and supported the development of fisher goal setting and management; and developed a process for Managed Access + Reserve (MA+R) implementation. Central to the Fish Forever model is the proven "TURF-R" system (Territorial Use Rights for Fishing + Reserve), which combines spatial property rights for fishing areas with marine reserves (or No Take Zones - NTZs), protecting key habitats where fish stocks can rebuild.
About the Job
Working under the management of the Senior Program Director, the Sr. Associate, Fisheries Science will support the implementation of MA+R at all project sites of Rare Indonesia. In addition, they will assist with the fisheries data collection setup and conduct data analysis to support the establishment process of the MA+R.
