Senior Archaeologist - Principal Investigator

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Senior Archaeologist/Principal Investigator - Cultural Resources for our Rocky Mountain/Plains region, including Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and adjacent states. This position will be based out of our Colorado Front Range offices (Denver and Fort Collins), but remote locations will also be considered. This successful applicant will be responsible for report writing and review, managing client, agency, and tribal relationships, as well as winning and delivering on projects. This is a regular (with benefits), full-time, salaried position. This position is a wonderful career-growth opportunity for the right candidate to join SWCA’s expanding practice. Experience in renewable energy and/or transmission and is highly preferred.

What you will accomplish

  • Assist with, or lead, staffing, fieldwork (potentially), research, report writing, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) review.
  • Maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and tribes.
  • Nurture and develop client relationships.
  • Organize and create best practices and processes.
  • Collaborate with SWCA’s managers, directors, and principal investigators on technical and business development efforts throughout the company.
  • Maintain SWCA’s high standard of scientific ethics and quality assurance and is motivated to identify and resolve problems in creative ways.
  • Assist in the continuing development of SWCA’s Cultural Resource Program and expands SWCA’s professional reputation in cultural resources consulting and research throughout the Rocky Mountain/Plains region and beyond.

Experience and qualifications for success

REQUIRED

  • Master's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the management of cultural resources (NEPA, Section 106 of the NHPA)
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology.
  • Experience with Rocky Mountains or Great Plains archaeology.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in cultural resources management (CRM) on a variety of project types, sizes, regions, and agencies, with increasing levels of responsibility.

PREFERRED

  • Qualified for listing on permits as a principal investigator or the ability to become qualified in the near future.
  • Experience in a project management role, whether in the field or in the office.
  • Has completed all aspects of a project, from pre-field tasks to final report preparation for a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with a record of completing technical reports in a timely fashion.
  • Has worked on an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners.
  • Experience and interest in business development, proposal writing, and client management.
  • Team-orientated attitude with strong leadership and mentoring skills.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA), we are disclosing a good faith estimate of the compensation range for roles that will be, or could be, performed in Colorado.
