ABOUT THE ROLE
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transportation are the largest contributor of U.S. GHG emissions. This role is an excellent opportunity to bring your knowledge of transportation markets, your analytical mindset, and technical skills to play a key role in the development of new transportation products and services for electric utilities and have a meaningful impact on initiatives that will help accelerate transportation decarbonization more broadly. In this role, you will lean into your experience in conducting market research, developing market forecasts, and analyzing detailed data sets to provide actionable insights that will inform our business planning.
This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to the Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence and is ideally located in San Francisco, CA or for highly qualified candidates you may work from a remote home office in the West Coast Time Zone, with a willingness to travel periodically for team meetings or training.
**WHAT YOU’LL DO
**As part of the Market Intelligence team (MIT), you will work with stakeholders across multiple Business Units (BU), with an initial focus on the Utility Partnerships BU to help the team make informed decisions about new transportation products and services. This position has three core functions:
Market Research: Support the development of go-to-market strategies for new products & market segments based on a comprehensive analysis of customer needs, competitor analysis, and market trends.
- Conduct research on the policy, technology, and economic factors shaping transportation decarbonization. This includes areas like evaluating fleet electrification adoption, charging infrastructure deployment business models, technology cost comparisons, changing policy frameworks, electric vehicles, and market stakeholder strategies
- Offer research-driven advice on how to design, promote and package new transportation products
- Develop a competitive landscape analysis and measure the success of competitor strategies
- Synthesize research to identify key impacts to 3Degrees’ business activities; provide strategic input to minimize risk and maximize opportunities
Data Analysis: Develop quantitative analysis, market sizing, policy/regulatory research, and forecasting to advance transportation decarbonization across the company.
- Gather and organize data sets pertaining to transportation market research topics
- Spearhead demand and supply-side modeling and forecasting projects
- Work closely with the Regulatory Affairs team to proactively and reactively model regulatory implications in our target markets
- Clearly and concisely summarize modeling and research outputs for members of the entire organization through the creation of supporting collateral, including presentations and memos
- Support technical assistance requests on an as-needed basis; respond to information requests from various managers when called upon
Collaborate: Participate on a cross-functional, collaborative new product development team.
- Proactively contribute to continuous improvement, provide input on 3Degrees products, marketing strategies, sales and delivery improvements and team collaboration
ABOUT YOU
You are a highly-motivated professional with experience in data analytics, modeling, and policy analysis. You have a passion for researching solutions to complex problems, are able to create comprehensive, data-driven market analyses, and translate what you’ve learned into practical business recommendations in support of new product strategy. We believe that you have the following skills that will give you the best opportunity for success in this role:
Required:
- 3+ years experience in a market analyst, data analyst or equivalent strategic or quantitative role
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel with experience in modeling and forecasting
- Proven track record of managing multiple long-term projects while also delivering on short-term requests
- Exceptional research skills, evidence of resourcefulness, and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative to find solutions to problems
- Comfort working in collaborative team settings where communication is key
- A passion for serving client needs; joy in other peoples’ success; empathy, superior listening, and emotional intelligence skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, environmental science, data science or other relevant discipline - relevant experience in lieu of a degree will also be considered
Preferred:
- Experience in energy, sustainability, or transportation
- Experience working with utilities or energy companies
**HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS
**Within 30 days
- Focus on becoming familiar with 3Degrees as a company, including all current transportation research, products and services
- Build a working knowledge of 3Degrees' utility sector products and services
Within 60 days
- Collaborate with the UP Senior Product Development Manager to kick-off a business case effort for a new electric utility transportation electrification product concept
- Support other key business case activities in support of advancing the new product concept through a stage-gate product development process
- Cultivate mutually beneficial relationships with multiple stakeholders across 3Degrees
Within 90 days
- Continue to develop a business case for the new electric utility transportation electrification product concept
- Support the UP Senior Product Development Manager to carry the first set of new product(s) through a stage-gate product development process
Within 6 months
- You will have successfully demonstrated your expertise and be recognized as a subject matter expert in transportation decarbonization market research and analysis
- Contribute to ongoing research and development projects across Utility Partnerships BU and the rest of the company
