Senior Accountant

What We Look For: Can you design custom financial reports? Are you able to provide technical assistance with our cloud-based accounting software, compliance management, grant reporting and restricted revenue management? Can you prepare pivot tables and other excel based reports? Are you a driven team player that can assist with month-end close, budget planning and development, and year-end audit assistance?

If so, this is the position for you. We want you to succeed and we want to pay you a competitive wage that is in line with your experience.  The salary range for this full-time remote role is $85,000-$90,000. Offers are determined based on relevant skills and experience required for the position. This position is part of the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU) at Friends of the Earth.

Attention to Detail: Oversee management of all restricted revenue and ensure timely recording in the accounting system, including completion of Temporary Restricted Net Asset Schedule (TRNA) and other month-end revenue schedules. Provide technical assistance with annual budget planning and development and co-lead reprojection of the annual budget. Update Intacct and prepare monthly lobbying reports for the Compliance and Legal teams.

Organized Contributor:  Collaborate with the Compliance Department to accurately record all lobbying activities for both 501c3 and c4 entities. Work closely with the Fundraising team to obtain and accurately record all restricted revenue. Assist the Controller with monthly bank reconciliation and balance sheet account schedules.  Work with an outsourced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firm on restricted revenue TRNA schedules. Work with Accounts Payable (AP) and Payroll Accountant to ensure monthly close of AP; provide all technical assistance related to AP and payroll as needed.

Analytical Ability: Prepare 990 related reports as requested to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Prepare pivot tables and other excel based reports for team leaders each month. Obtain all lobbying-related data from various teams and prepare timely journal entries.) Assist in preparing monthly grant reports for Donors and Foundations, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial data. Generate annual Journal Entries for the Joint Cost Allocation (JCA) and ensure their accuracy and completeness.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related fields required.

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience related to month-end close and year-end audit.

  • 3-5 years of grant management experience overseeing all grant functions from the beginning to closing of grant cycle.

  • Non-profit Accounting experience is required.

  • Working knowledge Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other tax regulations.

  • Strong communication and financial analysis skills.

  • Strong organizational and stress management skills.

  • Sage-Intacct experience required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to quickly learn new accounting systems and software.

  • Ability to establish good interpersonal relationships.
