Position Summary

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a private not-for-profit Audubon Sanctuary encompassing 13,450 acres in Southwest Florida’s western Everglades. Being a part of the Sanctuary team means making a difference for conservation.  The Seasonal Campus Host position is a part-time seasonal position requiring an average of 15 hours of work per week in support of essential end-of-day and Center-related functions.

Seasonal Campus Hosts support Blair Visitor Center operations by ensuring all visitors have safely exited the boardwalk at the close of business hours, and by securing the gates and parking lot. Additionally, Campus Hosts serve as on-site staff point of contacts for Audubon's alarm company and special guests. These responsibilities are scheduled in shifts with others. When not working, opportunities abound for Campus Hosts interested in volunteering in public education, natural resource protection, maintenance, and more. This is an exciting seasonal opportunity to work with a leader within the conservation industry.

Seasonal Campus Hosts are required to live on-site in their personal RV (Recreational Vehicle) on one of Audubon’s two RV pads. The RV pads are nestled in the pine flatwoods on campus. Each site is equipped with water, sewer and electricity hook-ups as well as a private outdoor patio and grill.  Corkscrew Swamp is a remote location.

Essential Functions

• Must live on-site in a personal RV (Recreational Vehicle).
• Conduct boardwalk closings to help ensure an orderly, safe, and systematic closure of the Blair Visitor Center.
• Support Blair Visitor Center operations including, but not limited to, admissions and guest services.
• Be available during times when the Blair Visitor Center is closed.
• Respond to calls from Audubon’s security company to check on motion sensors or fire alarms should they go off.
• Greet and orient the occasional guest, ensuring that they have what they need and staff are informed of their arrival and departure.
• Since there are four positions to conduct this work, staff will rotate through boardwalk closing, guest services, and being on-call so that, on average, fifteen hours per week are worked.

Qualifications and Experience

• Ability to walk at least three miles to conduct the boardwalk closing in a variety of weather conditions.
• Must have a vehicle, driver’s license, and a personal cell phone with service provider.
• Ability to make sound decisions related to safety and security.
• Preferred experience working with the public and/or in customer service roles.
