About the Job

We are currently seeking a scientist or project scientist for our Marine, Coastal, Climate, and Technology business area with an emphasis on supporting the development of offshore renewable energy. The position will support multiple clients and projects in the area of baseline and long-term environmental monitoring and, potentially, permitting of offshore wind projects along all coasts of the United States.

Day-to-day project work will vary depending on the candidate’s technical areas of expertise and experience and may include sampling plan preparation, literature review, fieldwork/sample collection, data management and evaluation, technical reporting, and project management. This position may offer in-office, hybrid, or remote opportunities based on the candidate’s location and the needs of the organization.

Responsibilities

As a marine scientist/oceanographer, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:

  • Implementing and documenting environmental studies associated with offshore renewable energy development and aquatic environmental assessments, possibly including sediment investigation and remediation project work
  • Participating in and leading multidisciplinary field surveys involving underwater acoustic and photographic mapping techniques and water column and sediment sampling methods
  • Planning and assisting with the delivery of scientifically sound field expeditions and surveys, contributing to the development of health and safety plans and quality assurance project plans, and assisting with logistical planning and equipment readiness/maintenance tasks
  • Conducting data synthesis, analysis, and interpretation, and potentially geospatial analysis, and empirical and numerical modeling to identify and quantify variability, trends, and gradients in habitat quality and types
  • Preparing project deliverables and technical reports

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a degree in oceanography, marine sciences, or a closely related field. Demonstrated knowledge of oceanographic and/or sediment physical, geochemical, ecological processes as well as basic photographic/imaging technology is a plus. A valid passport, driver’s license, and ability to obtain and hold offshore medical and safety training certificates are required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3 to 5+ years of professional experience in physical, geological, or biological marine science
  • Knowledge of and experience with science and data requirements for offshore wind projects, including full project site characterization, permitting, operations, and long-term monitoring efforts
  • Marine environmental habitat mapping/monitoring, fisheries habitat mapping/assessments, and/or sediment quality assessment experience
  • Familiarity with computer learning and artificial intelligence methods
  • Experience with field measurements, instrumentation, and remote sensing
  • Excellent client interaction and communication skills
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers

Annual Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000

An employee’s total compensation package includes annual salary, company-subsidized (employee and family) medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) participation with a company match of 1% to 4% of annual compensation, company-paid life and short- and long-term disability, paid sick leave (80 hours per year), paid vacation (12 or/to 15 days; determined by title at hire), paid holidays (9 days per year), and the potential for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance. Paid time off will be prorated to reflect part-time scheduled hours, if applicable.
