Responsibilities

Program/Department Overview

EDF’s Membership Department contributes to the mission by engaging with our three million members and activists to raise money and take action. Executing a multichannel campaign correctly requires experts in copywriting, creative, analysis, marketing databases, donor development, and member services. Membership staff work closely with colleagues in Marketing, Development, IT, and Political Affairs to be effective in our work and efficient in our use of resources.

Overall Function

As a non-profit organization, EDF keeps constituent data in Salesforce NPSP so staff can maintain relationships with program partners and financial supporters. Process flaws can cause errors on constituent records, which can lead to lost relationships. The Membership Department’s Salesforce Data Intern will learn reporting and analysis skills to identify data-hygiene problems in the Salesforce database, with a focus on members in the United States who are donors. This intern will then correct constituent records, either by creating upload files, or by correcting lists of individual records.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Gain Salesforce reporting and analysis skills, through training from Membership staff and online documentation.
  • Use Salesforce and Excel to export and edit correction lists for upload.
  • Monitor data hygiene through exception reports.
  • Investigate constituent issues reported by Member Services staff.
  • Suggest ways to improve constituent relationships to reach fundraising and activism goals.
  • Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program (associate or bachelor’s) with coursework in marketing, management, business, computer science, or related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in non-profit, non-governmental organizations.
  • Basic proficiency using spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel or equivalent) to edit and manipulate data.
  • Basic proficiency in Salesforce a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.
