Summary of Role:

As Quality of Supply (QOS) Engineer you will report to the Senior Grid Engineer and will be responsible for resolving QOS issues in order to obtain and maintain grid code compliance for plants. Grid code compliance for the plants will be benchmarked using the Distribution Customer Use Of System Agreement and the Grid Connection Code for Renewable Power Plants (RPPs) Connected to the Electricity Transmission (TS) or the Distribution System (DS) in South Africa. This function will align with the terms of the service level agreement entered into with MAMSA.

What You Will Do:

• Grid Code Compliance

• • Download, and analyse QOS data
  • Compile and submit QOS Grid Code compliance reports to the Network Services Provider

• Investigations

• • Install QOS meters to collect QOS data
  • Investigate root causes for QOS exceedances
  • Develop solutions to QOS exceedances

• Performance and Data Analysis

• • Ensure that regular monitoring and reporting is carried out in line with the applicable Agreements and Grid Codes
  • Compile, submit, present and manage all aspects relating to QOS exemption requests
  • Compile and submit monthly plant performance and generation reports

What We Require:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• 5 Years of experience in QOS analysis and investigations in an industrial, utility or power generation environment
• Good knowledge of the South African Grid Code including the Renewables Grid Code
• Ability to analyse data using excel or python or R
• Regular national travel and international travel will be required as part of the job (driving licence Code B essential, no criminal record or past infringements, no previous Visa rejections)
• Have excellent communication, written and people skills
• Extensive use of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows
• Fluent in the English language (written and spoken)

Preference will be given to Candidates who have the following Experience:

• Understanding of wind turbine/solar PV technologies
• Knowledge of wind farm/solar farm design
• Knowledge of the national HSE and Electrical Standards of South Africa
• Knowledge of Utility Connections and protection
• Knowledge of applicable Grid Codes
• Knowledge of engineering software (AutoCAD, GIS, dynamic simulation software)
