ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

ChildFund’s Sport for Development programs provide children with opportunities to play, learn and grow. Using integrated sport and life skills learning, young people from vulnerable communities are equipped to overcome challenges, inspire positive social change and take active leadership roles within their communities.

Under ChildFund Australia’s guidance, all Sport for Development programs contribute to achieving gender equality, reducing inequality, and ending violence against children, reflecting targets within the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Participants also develop critical social and emotional skills which help them to achieve personal goals, build empathy, manage emotions, develop positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

ChildFund Australia implements programs with a range of partners in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, and other Pacific nations, and manages projects delivered by partner organisations throughout Asia, Africa and the Americas. ChildFund’s work is funded through child and community sponsorship, government grants as well as donations from individuals, trusts and foundations, and corporates.

ChildFund Australia is a member of the ChildFund Alliance – a global network of 11 organisations which assists more than 9 million children and families in over 50 countries. ChildFund Australia is a registered charity, a member of the Australian Council for International Development, and fully accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade which manages the Australian Government’s overseas aid program.

OVERVIEW

Team Up and ChildFund Sport for Development (S4D) are working together to deliver an entry- level Safeguarding in Sport course that will result in practical, measurable progress to support identified Team Up Partner organisations to better keep everyone safe.

Recognising that safeguarding is an integral part of sports organisation, 6 Team Up partners are being offered the opportunity to join the Safeguarding in Sport course that will be delivered over the coming months through a mix of online workshop delivery and offline independent work.

The aim of the course is to increase understanding on key concepts of safeguarding in sport and to be aware of international good practice. The training will provide learning in each organisation for:
• Identified Safeguarding Leads/Officers

• A board member

• Key staff

PURPOSE

ChildFund Sport for Development is seeking up to 4 in-country Safeguarding Facilitators to support the Lead Trainer to deliver quality learning workshops.

In-country Safeguarding Facilitators will work closely with the ChildFund Sport for Development Lead Trainer to ensure learning outcomes are achieved and participants actively engage with learning in a hybrid online/face to face environment.

In-country Safeguarding Facilitators will be observed and provided with feedback by the Lead Trainer to support professional development.

DELIVERABLES & INDICATIVE TIMETABLE

Successful applicants will be required to:

• Complete independent individual planning offline prior to workshop delivery, including
• writing a Trainer session plan.
• Attend online workshop preparation sessions to prepare and practice prior to workshop
• delivery.
• Support online workshop content delivery in collaboration with ChildFund Sport forAll Learning Workshops will be delivered on a monthly basis with all partners in attendance through Zoom, with face to face facilitation support from the In-Country Safeguarding Facilitator.
• Development Lead Trainer, acting as a learning resource and support facilitator in the face to face environment.

Pre-Course reading (August): Planning (Independent, offline): 2 hours

Learning Workshops for Safeguarding Leads (Monthly, Sep-Dec): Planning (Independent, offline): 4 x 1.5 hour each Preparation (Group work, online): 4 x 1 hour each Delivery: 4 x 2 hours each. Total: 4 Monthly Learning Workshops

Indicative TOTAL Time: 18 hours

* Activities and dates are subject to change upon agreement between ChildFund and In-Country Safeguarding Facilitator.

Successful candidates are expected to remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding and Sexual Exploitation, Abuse or Harassment (SEAH) risks and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with ChildFund Child Safeguarding and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Harassment Policies.

EXPECTATIONS

Successful candidates will demonstrate:
• Technical knowledge of safeguarding in sport, including key principles of safeguarding.
• Understanding of training processes and tools and can adequately plan and prepare

assigned activities using facilitation guides and session planning tools.
• Facilitation skills, such as the ability to answer or respond appropriately to challenging questions about safeguarding in sport, appropriately address challenging statements that may be against the key principles of safeguarding or that may create a barrier to a safe

environment.
• The ability to effectively navigate discussions about scenarios which may be considered a

concern for someone’s safety in-line with good practice safeguarding and disclosure

protocols.
• The ability to recognise challenges during learning where participants deviate from agreed

learning intentions and responding appropriately with course correction.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Fluency in written and spoken English and other relevant languages.
• Explicit willingness to challenge gender stereotypes in and through sport.
• Understanding of sport and/or development sectors.
• Strong analytical skills to support and make practical recommendations.
• Expertise in using participatory training methodologies to deliver learning.
• Experience in training/projects related to gender equity and/or safeguarding. • Experience of working in hybrid online/offline learning environments.
• Openness, willingness to learn, adaptable and flexible.

SAFEGUARDING

The successful applicant will be required to comply with ChildFund Australia’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and to sign a Code of Conduct, as well as with ChildFund’s Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) policy and procedures. The consultant will also have in place a Criminal Background Check/Working with Children Check (or equivalent).

COUNTER TERRORISM

ChildFund Australia acknowledges its obligation under the Australian laws relating to counterterrorism. In order to meet its obligation, the consultant’s name will be reviewed against Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and National Security Australia lists at the onset of any financial relationship.

All discussions and documents relating to this ToR will be treated as confidential by the parties.

MANAGEMENT & REPORTING

The In-Country Safeguarding Facilitator(s) will report to the ChildFund Sport for Development Safeguarding & Training Support Officer. The In-Country Safeguarding Facilitator(s) may also be expected to work with key ChildFund Australia staff members to ensure adherence to relevant policies and procedures. The In-Country Safeguarding Facilitator(s) will have no management authority.

COMPENSATION

Professional fees will be paid at 150 FJD per day (pro-rata).
