Residential Worker - Casual/Hourly
Division: Residential Services, Residential/Housing
Work Status: Casual/Hourly
Location: Durham Region (Whitby & Oshawa)
About the Role:
The Whitby and Oshawa Residential Programs are a safe, structured, supportive environment for female identifying, male identifying, non-binary, gender fluid youth primarily (but not exclusively) in Durham Region. The Residence Programs are designed to assist in learning the skills necessary to live independently in the community. This includes key areas of self-sufficiency such as: Budgeting, Time Management, Menu Planning, Job Keeping, Food Preparation, Communication Skills, Goal Setting, Problem Solving and Decision Making. The programs also consider the individual needs of the clients by providing counselling in areas such as anger management, substance abuse, family and relationship problems, and taking responsibility for their own lives.
You’ll be working on things like:

Case Management/Documentation

Related post secondary college or degree program of study to include 1-1 counselling.
Must have a solid understanding of the issues and trends that youth face.
Proven experience working with youth
Valid Class G license with appropriate liability coverage
Valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certification, Crisis Intervention training and certification and ASIST Certification is an asset
Strong case management and organization skills
Strong computer skills in a Windows environment using Office 365 applications
Experienced in using Zoom to host/co-host meetings, including using polls, breakout rooms, annotation mode
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Able to take initiative and work as part of a team
If selected employment is conditional upon a satisfactory Police/Vulnerable Sector Check and a Children's Aid Society Child Protection Screening.
Status: Casual/Hourly
Hours: Rotational shifts that can include eight (8) and twelve (12) hour shifts (subject to change), that includes Overnights, Weekends, Weekdays, Afternoon/Evenings and Statutory Holidays
Location: Durham Region (Oshawa & Whitby)
Reports to: Manager of Residential Services
Travel: Yes, as required (mileage reimbursement)
Salary: $21.73 per hour

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the John Howard Society of Durham and C.U.P.E. (Bargaining Unit Local 2936.13).
Successful applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
