E3G is seeking a Researcher to work within its Public Banks and Development team. The post-holder will contribute to the coordination of research on the E3G Public Bank Climate Tracker Matrix, an online tool for assessing the Paris alignment of Multilateral Development Banks and bilateral Development Finance Institutions. The Researcher will be based in Berlin’s E3G office.

The role
E3G’s mission is to ensure climate safety for all. E3G’s Public Banks and Development team works towards two specific goals in this context:
Capital is mobilised at sufficient scale and pace, to the right places, to support global climate-safe transition
Public development finance institutions and mechanisms play a transformational role in achieving climate safety as a result of strong design, governance and actions, helping to unlock the international politics of collaboration for transition.
This role will support the Public Banks and Development team’s core work, with a particular focus on the E3G Public Bank Climate Tracker Matrix. This will include the production of high-quality research about public banks, direct engagement with the staff and shareholders of public banks, and collaborative working with other teams across E3G in support of shared goals.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery and coordination of research, including qualitative and quantitative analysis for E3G’s Public Bank Climate Tracker Matrix and ensure that the Matrix is kept updated with high-quality, accurate and relevant information.
Monitoring changes in the development finance sphere. Analysing and assessing policies relevant to the climate ambition of public banks and other development finance institutions, and the related policies of shareholder/donor governments.
Contributing to internal and external communications materials in relation to role responsibilities, e.g., internal meeting readouts and analysis, E3G policy briefings, reports, social media content.
Supporting E3G to build and manage relationships with stakeholders in the development finance ecosystem internationally, including bank officials, shareholders, NGOs, and policymakers.
Coordinating with other E3G teams and with external stakeholders in order to make improvements to the Public Bank Climate Tracker Matrix and to expand its use inside and outside E3G.
Providing general support to the work of the Public Banks and Development team, including around event organisation, team administration, etc.
Contribute to the work of the E3G organisation overall, proactively seeking and building internal collaborations with other teams to support E3G-wide strategic goals.

Experience and skills
Experience of producing both qualitative and quantitative research. Data visualization skills would be an important advantage, as will strong quantitative analysis skills including R and/or Python as well as data scraping skills.
The ability to write fluently and coherently in English, preferably with prior experience of writing policy briefings or reports. Candidates will be asked to share examples of previous written outputs during the interview process.
A high level of competence to speak, read and write in one or more additional languages will be an advantage. Languages of interest include German, Spanish, and French, with proficiency in non-European languages also of interest.
A solid understanding of the international development finance system and/or of climate finance issues in the multilateral context. Direct experience of working on or with public banks will be an advantage. A strong interest in politics and a broad understanding of key issues in climate change policy.
Experience of communicating using a range of different media, e.g. reports, blogs, press, social media.
Experience of dealing with a range of different stakeholders (e.g. public officials, civil society organisations) and of working with decision-makers at a variety of levels.
Experience of working in a relevant setting e.g., political, policy or research in government or international institution, civil society, think tank or research institute, will be an advantage.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate a high level of initiative and be positive, organised, resilient and able to deliver high quality work on time. They should demonstrate attention to detail combined with the ability to analyse complex information to create high-level summaries.
An undergraduate degree, and ideally a post graduate degree in a relevant discipline. This could for example include politics, social sciences, economics, finance, climate change, environment or international relations.

E3G offers a reward and benefits package which compares well with other organisations within our sector. The indicative salary range in Berlin for this position is €38,250 to €41,280 per annum FTE, dependent on experience, qualification and location of the chosen candidate.
Yearly process for remuneration review.
E3G is unable to provide any relocation assistance to candidates who would need to move in order to take up this position. E3G will require candidates to demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in Germany.
