E3G is looking for a researcher to join its EU Politics team. The role can be based in either E3G’s Brussels or Berlin offices.

The Role

Building a climate safe world requires aligning different forces in society to create the laws and institutions necessary to drive change. E3Gs Political Economy and Governance work sets out to understand how countries economic conditions interact with their political system to produce decisions on climate change.

As part of our Political Economy and Governance programme, you’ll work with E3G programmes and partners contributing crucial research and information management to underpin strategic assessments of barriers and threats preventing rapid economic and political climate action and help find effective responses across a range of issues, geographies and sectors.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will mainly work as a researcher for the EU politics team, which provides key political insights on climate change to decision makers across the EU.

The candidate will report to E3G’s Senior Policy Advisor for EU Politics.

Key responsibilities include:

> Research, investigations and analysis around threats and barriers to rapid economic and political climate action, as well as opportunities to accelerate Europe’s decarbonisation

> Support running dedicated database, networks, and information systems underpinning research and investigations

> Prepare clear, accessible research and analysis outputs to inform strategies, communications, reports and presentations for internal and external use

> Support preparations and running of workshops and meetings internally and with external partners and stakeholders

> Develop robust knowledge and thinking on climate change, climate investment, and transition issues

> Provide administrative and organisational support, including note taking

> International travel may be required from time to time.

Person specification

We’re looking for a successful candidate who can demonstrate a range of qualifications, competencies and experience to fit the role, including:

> A high quality degree and ideally a post graduate qualification in a relevant area

> Research experience in a professional or academic setting or other relevant professional experience

> Experience of investigations or assessment in a strategic or open-source intelligence setting would be an advantage

> Strong research, analytical and thinking skills with intellectual curiosity and creativity and proficiency working with complex information and databases

> Supportive, collaborative and open colleague and team player

> Well-organised and focused on delivering desired outputs, results and outcomes

> Adept at presenting clear, accessible analysis in written form and presenting ideas clearly and credibly with colleagues.

> The candidate must have the right to work in the EU.
