RESEARCHER, EU ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE, BRUSSELS OR BERLIN
E3G is seeking a Researcher to work within the EU Energy Transition team. The post-holder will develop our analytical research base, focusing on energy infrastructure in the context of the energy transition in Europe. The role will be based in one of our E3G offices in either Berlin or Brussels.

Overview
Based in the EU Energy Transition team, the researcher will contribute to developing our research base and deepen our political economy analysis of energy infrastructure, such as grids, in the context of the energy transition in Europe.
The successful candidate will provide specialised focus on the politics of infrastructure development, at both the EU and member state level, to refine our political engagement strategies.
The researcher will also support research activities on the politics of infrastructure development in Europe, develop analytical tools - such as infographics and publications - and will offer analytical support to other work in the Energy Transition team, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
This list is not exhaustive, and the researcher will be required to undertake other tasks and duties as needed, within the EU Energy Transition team and the wider organisation.
Conduct research and analysis regarding grids and energy infrastructure development, focusing on the opportunities to build and maintain momentum to deliver infrastructure aligned with climate targets in Europe, and in support of international climate action.
Develop and apply research tools to maximise the impact of our work (e.g. conduct interviews, literature reviews, political economy analysis and mappings, develop databases, and apply data visualisation techniques).
Prepare and contribute to communications products such as presentations, briefings and reports for internal and external use.
Develop a network of contacts working on EU grids and energy infrastructure research, including integrated network planning with hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Support with, both the preparation and delivery of, workshops and other external engagements with partners from civil society, the private sector and government.
Support the design and maintenance of effective internal databases and develop, where required, information systems on behalf of the team.
International travel may be required from time to time.
Profile and requirements

Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will:
Have an undergraduate degree, and ideally a post graduate degree, in a relevant discipline.
If you are applying to the Berlin office, have fluency in German.
Have substantial self-led research experience in a professional or academic setting, preferably on energy, political economy, climate policy or a related field.
Have excellent research, writing, and analytical skills with a capacity to gather, synthesise and assess information from a range of sources.
Have excellent communication skills and be adept at presenting clear and accessible analysis
Have proficiency working with complex information (required), databases and data visualisations (desired).
Have a strong grasp of EU politics and policies. Knowledge of European energy infrastructure policy would be an advantage.
Have an ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented manner, working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary and multicultural environment.

Brussels
The indicative salary range in Brussels is €2,812.5 to €3,053 monthly reference, dependant on experience, with holiday pay and a 13th month.
Additional pension contribution equivalent to 7.5% of gross annual salary.
Mobile phone and contract, lunch and eco vouchers, hospitalisation and travel insurance, travel expense reimbursement (bicycle or public transport).
Berlin
The indicative salary range in Berlin is €38,250 to €41,280 annually, dependant on experience.
Additional pension contribution equivalent to 4% of gross annual salary.
Annual cost cover for BahnCard50 from Deutsche Bahn for business and private use.
E3G is unable to provide any relocation assistance to candidates who would need to move in order to take up this position.
E3G will require candidates to demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in the jurisdiction in which E3G employs them.
