RESEARCHER (DATA ANALYST), FOSSIL FUEL TRANSITION TEAM, LONDON, BRUSSELS OR BERLIN

E3G is looking for a Researcher to support its work on the global transition from coal to clean power, through data analysis, visualisation, and communication activities. This exciting new role will work closely with E3G colleagues and partners to undertake data-based research and analysis and generate well-informed advice. The Researcher will be based in one of our E3G offices in either London, Brussels or Berlin, with a preference for London.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare clear, accessible, data-driven analysis and provide insightful advice that informs policy briefings, reports, and presentations regarding coal-to-clean power system transitions across national, regional, and global scales.
• Research, analyse and discuss key climate & energy dynamics, including identifying opportunities and threats to rapid climate action and energy transition.
• Support the design, construction, and use of dedicated databases and information systems underpinning clean power transition research and investigations.
• Provide support to ensure delivery of effective outputs, including note taking, media monitoring, report preparation, and provision of communications materials, particularly data visualisation and graphics.
• Assist with E3G engagement with civil society partners and diplomatic networks, including the preparation of analysis and advice.
• Support preparation and delivery of workshops and meetings internally and with external partners from across civil society, private sector, and diplomatic actors.
• International travel may be required from time to time.

Experience and Skills

Essential Experience:

• A good undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as climate change, international relations, energy, economics, politics, development, and geography. A post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline is desirable but not essential.
• 1-2 years of pertinent professional experience in a related field, such as involvement in policy or research within governmental or international organisations, civil society, think tanks, or research institutes.
• Strong research, analytical and thinking skills with a curious mind, creativity and proficiency in working with complex information. Highly skilled in numerical analysis and adept at handling and presenting large datasets.
• Experience with using Microsoft Office products, including Excel. Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Tableau and Flourish.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Desirable Experience:

• Demonstrated success in influencing policymakers through data-driven insights. Well-organised and focused on delivering desired outputs, results and outcomes.
• Supportive and collaborative colleague and team player. Strong cultural sensitivity and experience working in international environments preferred.
• Adept at presenting clear, accessible work in written form and presenting ideas comprehensibly and credibly with colleagues.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to produce high-quality, evidence-based written outputs, sometimes to tight deadlines, and to build rapport with others.
• Have a proven track record of problem-solving and research. The ideal candidate can familiarise themselves with a new topic quickly and make evidence-based judgements.

E3G is unable to provide any relocation assistance to candidates who would need to move in order to take up this position. Occasional international travel may be required from time to time. E3G will require candidates to demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in the jurisdiction in which E3G employs them.
