Research Technician (La Cité College Internship)

Full-time, Hourly

Fixed Term, 5 months

Internship Overview:

The Growcer and La Cité College’s Technology Access Centre in Bio-Innovation are collaborating on a research project pertaining to Indoor Strawberry Cultivation.

As part of this collaboration, Growcer is hosting a Research Technician Internship with their strawberry research team. To clarify, this role will be employed by La Cité College, but working primarily at Growcer’s lab.

Job title: Research Technician

Location: Growcer Head Office, Ottawa, ON and/or La Cité College’s Technology Access Centre in Bio-Innovation (TAC–B) (at the Ottawa Campus)

Work schedule: 35 hours/week, in person, with at least 1 day on site at La Cité College Campus

Remuneration (hourly rate): $20,83-26,04 based on experience

Status: Temporary (5 months with the possibility of renewal)

Start date: March 10, 2025

End date:  Sept. 8, 2025 with possibility for renewal

Project Type: Development of a turnkey fruit production unit Supervision: One or more members of the TAC-B team or members of Growcer's research and development team.

Job Description:

At the Growcer Development Center and La Cité’s TAC-B, you will be part of a dynamic team working at the forefront of agricultural innovation. This role offers hands-on experience in a cutting-edge field, allowing you to develop valuable skills and build a strong network within the industry. You will have the opportunity to conduct laboratory or greenhouse experiments on fruit-bearing plants, maintain a detailed laboratory journal, and compile and interpret scientific data. Whether you're a current student or a recent graduate, this position provides a unique opportunity to advance your career in agricultural technology.

Requirements:

  • Recent graduate (within the last year) from a post-secondary institution

  • Ability to work full time for at least 5 months, with the possibility of extension

  • Punctual and accountable.

  • Ability to work independently and manage your priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to reliably follow Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to anticipate and resolve project challenges.

  • Ability to conduct hands-on, repetitive tasks in agricultural and laboratory settings

  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office environment, including the ability to update spreadsheets, Standard Operating Procedures and reports.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both French and English.

Assets:

  • Experience working in sterile conditions.

  • Experience in plant cultivation in controlled environments.

  • Experience with hydroponics growing techniques and technologies

  • Experience conducting literature reviews.

  • Experience with technical writing.
