You will work closely with our Founder and Chairman, David Katz, weaving connections and driving media relations to identify strategic opportunities for interviews, webinars, podcasts, talks and events.

Plastic Bank empowers ocean stewards to stop ocean plastic. Our ethical collection communities exchange plastic for life improving benefits. Exchanges are recorded through a blockchain-secured platform that enables traceable collection, secures income, and verifies reporting. Collected material is processed into Social Plastic® feedstock for reuse in products and packaging. Plastic Bank was founded in 2013, and is headquartered in Vancouver BC, Canada with operations across Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead media relations for our Founder and Chairman, David Katz
Identify the best media and events opportunities to elevate thought leadership messaging reach and impact
Preparation of presentations and newsworthy PR materials including press releases, maintain updated media lists, PR alerts and pitches with minimal revisions from manager
Preparation of thought leadership content in diverse formats (text, video and photo) for always-on Social activation
Collaborate closely with Marketing and external stakeholders to develop an actionable and relevant pitch calendar for print, broadcast and digital media to achieve results based on company KPIs and proactively pursuing alternative solutions when difficulties arise
Work directly with the Social Media team to deliver fully integrated Brand Communications plans that challenge convention
Participate in QA processes for external communications including but not limited to newsletters and editorial articles, proactively flagging sensitive issues and/or communications considerations to respective teams
Research, identify, and recommend key business and trade PR opportunities aligned to company priorities to position our thought leadership message
Liaise with external partners and internal teams to coordinate media events and launches
Conduct PR and market analysis based on PR framework performance and industry trends to identify PR opportunities where Plastic Bank is under-indexed, and collaborate with respective partners to optimize
Manage budget, operations and project deliverables with autonomy and accuracy
YOUR BACKGROUND
7+ years of PR experience – either agency or in-house
Strongly passionate about reducing ocean pollution, alleviating poverty and growing Plastic Bank's mission into a phenomenal global movement
Proven experience securing media coverage across business, sustainability, innovation, beauty and lifestyle publications in both Canada and the US
Strong, relevant and active contacts in reputed media sources in North America and Europe
Outstanding English communication skills; written, spoken, presentation etc.
Ability to problem solve, think critically and in an integrated manner, while presenting outside- the-box ideas
Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to focus, prioritize and multitask in a fast paced, high energy environment
A team player with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work with initiative, taking direction where needed
Agility and grit that delivers results
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in related field (communications, marketing, journalism or public relations) will be considered a plus
