Program Overview
Youth Villages’ Residential Treatment programs serve children with emotional and behavioral problems. Our residential campuses provide the setting for an intensive treatment program that combines the unique balance of structure and freedom. This enables children and their families to identify, understand and cope with their individual needs and develop the skills necessary to succeed in less restrictive settings. We have three different types of facilities—Intensive Residential Centers, Open Campuses, and Group Homes. Located in Tennessee and Georgia, all of these facilities utilize the Re-Education of Emotionally Disturbed Children therapy model (Re-Ed).
Position Overview
Helps with all aspects of patient care including diagnosis, treatments and consultations
Provide input about psychiatric treatment activities by attending treatment team meetings
Monitor the use of medication for the appropriate diagnoses, ensuring that the appropriate dosage is prescribed based on the youth’s age, height and weight and document treatment results
In the event of adverse reaction to medication, respond in the appropriate manner and document
Provide medication management under the supervision of psychiatrists per BOMEX policy
Track patient progress weekly and document their results
Perform child/adolescent psychiatric assessment and document outcome to meet the Youth Villages quality of care criteria and that of all other governing bodies
Educate patients and families about mental illness, treatment and prevention
Provide appropriate diagnoses per the current DSM and prescribe evidence based treatments
Screen patients and appropriately triage for physical illness
Analyze factors for psychiatric illness, such as developmental issues, family dysfunction, genetics, neurological trauma or social or cultural problems
Assess risk factors for mental illness and broader wellness evaluations
Participate in on-call rotation, responding to need for consultation and/or assessment as deemed appropriate
Participate in doctor of the day and complete all required duties/assessments
Attend monthly Medical Staff Meetings and participate in the quarterly National Medical Staff Meeting
Complete all trainings as required by Youth Villages, licensing agencies, and compliance organizations
Education Requirements
Advanced Nurse Practitioner Degree with certification in psychiatry.
Certification and Licensure Requirements
Licensed by state as a Registered Professional Nurse
American Nurses Credentialing Center Certification
Experience Requirements
Ongoing supervision by M.D.
