PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
As the Provincial Trainer, you will be responsible for conducting training and monitoring progress against project targets of Head Teachers and School Board of Management (BoM) on the School Leadership Management Training package under the Partnerships for Improving Education (PIE) project. You will be required to travel to remote locations to conduct trainings in school clusters. You will also be involved in following up with schools on the development of the school SLIPs. You will engage with provincial partners to organize training logistics, school and teacher selections list and prepare venues for district trainings and maintain daily and open communication with the Lead trainers and Logistics and Administration Coordinator for all training logistics and provincial office needs.
KEY DUTIES
- Deliver School Leadership training to achieve project targets and outcomes and mainstream GEDSI and Child Protection at all trainings.
- Follow-up support is provided to trained school leaders on the development of the SLIP in collaboration with sub-national staff at the provincial and district level.
- Provide advice on draft plans to improve their effectiveness and/or the extent to which trainees will be engaged by them.
- Participate in regular meetings with other PIE project staff and develop an understanding of the project requirements, challenges, issues and develop action plans to mitigate or take corrective measures in consultation with Lead trainers and PDOE and District officers.
- Work with school leaders and teachers to increase the levels of engagement of parents and other community members with schools, children’s learning and planning and management of school development plans
- Prepare, at the end of trainings in each project target area reports on activities undertaken; highlight examples of effective practice or problems experienced.
- Participate in planning of trainings in project target areas, anticipate issues and build in arrangements for contingencies. Understand the administrative and financial requirements of the training and be prepared to assist other team members to carry them out.
- Work closely with NDOE officials at sub-national level (Provincial and district) on planning, delivering and monitoring project activities.
- Ensure compliance with ChildFund’s policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Education or related discipline or adult education qualification recognized in PNG.
- Knowledge and experience of elementary or primary classroom teaching
- Experience in school management as a Teacher in Charge or Head Teacher is desirable.
- Experience of teacher education, including teaching coaching/mentoring, is desirable.
- Experience in working as a trainer in diverse settings including in remote areas of PNG
- Understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods of monitoring and evaluation.
DESIRABLE
- Experience as a head teacher/teacher in a school in PNG
- Knowledge of participatory methods of adult education
- Experience in either of the two training topics – child well-being and DRM-SLIP.

- Strong training skills – confidence, clarity and responsiveness
- Strong organizational and planning skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Sound evaluative skills, able to assess trainees progress and make adjustments where necessary
- Understanding development in country context and child-focused development programs.
