About the Job

We are currently seeking a mid-level environmental data analyst to support our Hydrology, Geosciences, and Chemistry Practice, and other business areas of the company. The position will support multiple clients and projects, with the common theme of providing data and statistical analysis support to a diverse portfolio of environmental projects. The day-to-day work will vary. One day you may be leading a task to discover, access, and clean historical datasets. Another day you may be performing multivariate statistical analyses to differentiate sources of contamination.  Other days you may work with project teams to build interactive data visualizations to support development of conceptual site models. Responsibilities

As a Project Scientist/Engineer – Environmental Data Analyst, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (data managers, engineers, environmental scientists, toxicologists) to develop and implement data analysis plans to support environmental investigations
  • Leading data and statistical analysis tasks from start to finish with minimal supervision, applying appropriate statistical methods and visualization techniques
  • Organizing and wrangling data of all shapes and sizes from a variety of data sources while maintaining the highest degree of data integrity
  • Performing quality assurance reviews of technical analyses and results
  • Developing R Shiny web applications to present data to clients and stakeholders
  • Preparing technical reports summarizing analytical methods and results in a clear, concise manner
  • Leading and mentoring other data analysts

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a B.S. or M.S. degree in environmental science or engineering, geochemistry, hydrogeology, ecology, toxicology, or related technical field. Candidates with a B.S. or M.S. degree from another quantitative field and a demonstrated interest in environmental applications will be considered.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of experience working as an environmental consultant in a data analyst role
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience using R statistical programming language, including the use of Rmarkdown, plotly, and tidyverse packages (specifically dplyr and ggplot2), or equivalent experience using Python, including the use of NumPy, pandas, Matplotlib, and folium
  • Deep understanding and experience with the complete environmental data life cycle from field sampling to written synthesis
  • Strong knowledge of environmental chemistry and forensic methods
  • Strong background in applied statistics
  • Experience with data harvesting techniques like web scraping and API calls
  • Experience with development, deployment, and maintenance of R Shiny and/or plotly dash web applications
  • Proficiency with code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers

Annual Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000

An employee’s total compensation package includes annual salary, company-subsidized (employee and family) medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) participation with a company-match of 1% to 4% of annual compensation, company-paid life and short- and long-term disability, paid sick leave (80 hours per year), paid vacation (15 days), paid holidays (9 days per year), and the potential for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance. Paid time off will be pro-rated to reflect part-time scheduled hours, if applicable.
