PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
As the Project Officer– Strengthening Child Protection Services, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, organising, implementing, coordinating and monitoring activities of ChildFund PNG’s protection project in the target provinces (Western Highlands, Eastern Highlands and Morobe) and act as a link between stakeholders including service providers and ChildFund. The project aims to achieve strengthened child protection and gender-based violence (GBV) services.
KEY DUTIES
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with Child Protection Officers, local communities, NGOs, provincial government and civil society.
- Liaise with key stakeholders and develop plans on how to implement project activities in target provinces.
- Conduct regular meetings with relevant partners and stakeholders including service providers delivering GBV and CP services to strengthen coordination and support project implementation.
- Coordinate training events and ensure smooth implementation and achievement of target numbers.
- Map services and maintain up to date information on services in the provinces to update the helpline service provider directly to better inform the referral pathways.
- Identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities for strengthening CP, GBV and psychosocial support pathways.
- Promote the 1-Tok helpline to increase access for women and children experiencing violence.
- Implement monitoring tasks including data collection.
- Monitor project deliverables in a timely manner, notify the Project Coordinator when issues arise and take corrective actions as needed.
- Provide monthly progress reports to Project Coordinator and participate in regular team meetings in person and remotely.
- Ensure compliance with CF policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree/Diploma Social Sciences or relevant discipline
- 3 years’ proven experience in project implementation
- Experience coordinating events (such as training)
- Understanding of PNG’s development context, activities and actors.
- Understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods of monitoring and evaluation.
- Experience working in Highlands region of PNG with good connections to local government, CSOs, and other stakeholders
DESIRABLE
- Experience in facilitating training
- Experience in working with NGOs in cross-cultural setting.
- Understanding of Gender-based Violence and Child Protection Systems in PNG
Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding or sexual exploitation, abuse or harassment (SEAH) risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding and PSEAH policy and procedures, and conduct yourself consistent with those policies.
