Job Title: Project Manager – Peatland Restoration and Nature Recovery
Location: Homebased with regular travel to project sites across the UK, with particular interest in candidates living in Scotland. Salary: Dependent on experience Reporting To: Principal Ecologist Contract Type: Permanent/Full-time
Role Overview
The Project Manager will oversee multiple nature recovery projects, with a primary focus on peatland restoration, across the UK. This includes managing all aspects of project delivery, supporting team development on-site, driving cross-functional collaboration, managing and reporting on risks, and contributing to business growth through a customer-centric approach.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of nature recovery projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes on time and within budget
Coordinate multiple projects across the UK, ensuring effective resource allocation and timely progress reporting
Oversee site assessments, restoration planning, and project monitoring, ensuring ecological integrity and compliance with regulations.
Coaching and Team Development
Work collaboratively, providing coaching and support to enhance skills and expertise on-site
Foster effective collaboration within the team to ensure successful project outcomes
Share knowledge and best practices to support professional growth and operational excellence.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align client expectations and deliver customer-centric solutions
Engage with external stakeholders, such as landowners, regulators, and conservation organisations, to facilitate successful project delivery.
Client Relationship Management
Act as the main point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and alignment with their goals
Develop and maintain strong client relationships, fostering trust and long-term partnerships
Regularly update clients on project progress, challenges, and achievements.
Risk Management
Proactively identify and mitigate risks across all project stages, including ecological, financial, and operational risks
Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations in all project activities
Maintain detailed risk logs and provide regular updates to stakeholders and leadership on potential impacts and mitigation strategies
Feed risk insights and project updates into Key Account Management processes to ensure cohesive client engagement and satisfaction.
Tender and Contractor Management
Provide technical expertise to tender processes, collaborating with the bid team to develop winning proposals
Identify, secure, and manage experienced contractors to support the successful delivery of projects
Support the identification and pursuit of opportunities for new nature recovery projects, with a focus on peatland restoration
Collaborate with the commercial team to achieve business development targets and expand the project portfolio
Build strong relationships with contractors to maintain quality and efficiency in project execution.
Key Skills and Experience
Essential
Proven experience managing multiple ecological restoration projects, with expertise in peatland restoration
Strong organisational and project management skills, including resource allocation and budget management
Ability to coach and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in on-site environments
Demonstrated client relationship management skills, delivering customer-centric solutions
Knowledge of ecological principles, habitat restoration techniques, and monitoring methodologies
Experience in identifying and mitigating project risks, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including report writing and stakeholder engagement
A full UK driving licence will be required for this position.
Desirable
Familiarity with innovative tools and technologies, such as remote sensing or AI, for monitoring and restoration
Experience securing funding and preparing bids for environmental projects.
Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., CIEEM).
