Program Overview
Zero-emission trucks and buses are increasingly available and capable. EDF aims to transition trucks and buses to zero-emission solutions by 2050. The stakes are huge. Though trucks and buses represent fewer than 5% of all vehicles, they account for 28% of climate pollution from road transportation and 57% of the soot from vehicles. The next several years are critical to lock in a pace of transition to achieve our goal. We have opportunities to put in place national and state-level policies that set long-term standards with a clear timeline for transitioning to zero-emission vehicles; help leading fleets gain an understanding on how to effectively operate zero-emission trucks and set clear transition plans; and secure investments to strategically deploy charging infrastructure necessary to support these vehicles and help reduce upfront cost barriers.
This decade is a critical time to develop a robust, resilient charging system for electric trucks and make the associated investment to modernize the electric grid. EDF has a critical role to make certain that this task is accomplished by advocating for federal investments; pushing states and utility commissions to adopted charging infrastructure policies and programs sufficient to meet the increasing demand from electric trucks; and partnering with industry leaders to advance solutions that overcome the barriers to charging these vehicles.
Overall Function
EDF is working with major fleet operators, manufacturers, electric utilities and other key stakeholders to establish new business, finance and regulatory models to bring down total cost of ownership, facilitate the deployment of critical charging infrastructure and encourage charging with clean energy. We are currently participating in a number of utility, state and federal cases to advocate for charging infrastructure rollout of medium and heavy duty vehicles. In support of this, EDF seeks a project manager to provide technical support for to help advance our grid integration, electric vehicles and renewables advocacy efforts to ensure for their accelerated and coordinated deployment. This position would require a variety of different management and technical advisory activities to support out private sector charging infrastructure projects as well as provide technical advice to be included in active policy and advocacy in the commercial vehicle space. The Project Manager will report to the Director, Grid Modernization Strategy.
The ideal candidate will be able work on a hybrid schedule out of EDF’s Boston or New York office. Remote candidates will be considered.
