Project Manager - Ecological Restoration

About the opportunity

SWCA is seeking to fill the position of Project Manager - Ecological Restoration for SWCA’s New England operations. We are seeking an individual who can contribute to the growth of our ecological restoration practice in the Northeast, as well as support SWCA’s ecological restoration projects throughout the U.S. Flexibility to work out of a home office, or our Westborough or Amherst, Massachusetts office.

The ideal candidate will be interested in developing a long-term consulting career that combines high-level technical expertise with commercial acumen and leadership and have significant prior experience in project planning, project coordination, and/or project management. The ideal candidate will have excellent organization skills; the ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and deliverables at any given time; and strong communication skills.

This position is a regular, full-time, hourly position, reporting to the Ecological Restoration Team Lead.  This requisition can hire at three levels:

  • Assistant Project Manager –typically, with up to three (3) years of relevant experience and expertise
  • Associate Project Manager –typically, with up to five (5) years of relevant experience and expertise.
  • Project Manager – typically, with up to seven (7) years of relevant experience and expertise.

Salary will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

What you will accomplish

Client Relations

  • Develop strong relationships with existing clients while executing strategic analysis, marketing, and sales for new clients.
  • Network within industry organizations to establish and expand the regional client base and revenue in the areas of environmental planning, permitting, and broad-based ecological restoration services.
  • Identify and qualify sales opportunities (prospects and proposals), manage opportunities, and make recommendations to the Ecological Restoration Team Lead.
  • Support regional proposal efforts for large or strategic ecological and environmental planning opportunities.

Project Management and Business Operations

  • Directly manage large projects throughout the project management life cycle, ensuring adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ensure professional and technical excellence, and quality through project staffing and QA/QC assignments.
  • Promote culture of accountability, budget and cost control, value creation and return on investment, and profit optimization.

Leadership

  • Guide team members within ecological restoration projects.
  • Manage individual projects as well as assisting with team scheduling.
  • Communications with Project Team.
    • Meet with Management regularly to discuss project specific tasks.
    • Engage in business development initiatives.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an environmental- or communications-related discipline, such as: environmental studies, environmental science, biology, ecology, communications or journalism.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in project management work – ideally related to ecological restoration services, such as: trail construction, roadway projects, invasive plant management, wetland mitigation, stream bank restoration.

  • Cost proposal development experience - ideally for ecological restoration projects (see service types above).

  • Demonstrated performance and achievement in business development, including substantial established credibility with public and private clients.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in project work, related to ecological restoration services.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience with the Implementation of Ecological Restoration projects.

  • Experience with Smartsheet (and/or Smartsheet Resource Management)

  • Experience in the field of Ecological Restoration

An employee in this Amherst - based position can expect a salary of $26.25-$33.25/hour at the Assistant Project Manager level; between $29.25/hour and $37.75/hour at the Associate Project Manager level and $69,160/year to $88,920/year at the Project Manager level.  Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
