Position Summary

We're seeking a Technical Project Manager who combines deep technical understanding with exceptional business acumen and strategic vision to join our consulting firm dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations leverage technology to amplify their missions. In this role, you'll lead client engagements that transform how nonprofits operate, bringing both technical expertise and a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing mission-driven organizations.

The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering nonprofits through technology and thrives at the intersection of information systems and business strategy. You're equally comfortable discussing technical issues with the technical delivery teams and ROI with executives. You balance methodical project governance with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities. You excel at having critical conversations that drive alignment and progress, whether addressing scope and timeline constraints with your team or helping nonprofit leaders make difficult strategic decisions. You understand how to adapt corporate best practices to nonprofit realities and can balance methodical project governance with the flexibility that mission-driven work requires. You're known for your ability to anticipate issues before they arise and for developing innovative, sustainable solutions that nonprofits can maintain long-term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical consulting projects for nonprofit clients, ensuring solutions align with their mission, resource constraints, and impact goals
  • Facilitate critical conversations with client leadership about technology investments, change management, and long-term sustainability
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans with clear milestones, dependencies, and resource requirements tailored to nonprofit contexts
  • Guide internal technical teams to shepherd successful project deliverables while managing client expectations and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Establish and maintain robust project governance frameworks appropriate for nonprofit organizations, including risk management, change control, and quality assurance
  • Lead difficult but necessary conversations with both project teams and client stakeholders when projects face challenges or require course correction
  • Take ownership of managing scope, budget, and timeline within project constraints
  • Identify and raise issues early to allow for mitigation and course correction as needed
  • Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical nonprofit leaders while advocating for their needs with technical implementation teams
  • Monitor project performance against impact-oriented KPIs and adjust strategies to optimize outcomes
  • Lead project retrospectives to capture lessons learned and improve future nonprofit consulting approaches

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience managing technical projects, with demonstrated experience in the nonprofit sector a bonus
  • Strong business acumen with ability to understand nonprofit funding models, resource constraints, and impact measurement
  • Strategic advisory skills with proven ability to guide C-suite and leadership through technology transformation
  • Experience implementing right-sized project governance frameworks that work within nonprofit contexts- ideally with experience in projects at $200k-$1m range
  • Exceptional communication skills, particularly in facilitating difficult conversations and building consensus among diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with Agile methodologies adapted to nonprofit environments
  • Understanding of technology sustainability challenges facing nonprofit organizations
  • Ability to establish the root causes of issues and tackle them, not just address symptoms
  • Ability to move easily between big picture thinking and managing relevant details.
  • Experience working on remote teams with diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to convey technical issues to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, nonprofit management, or related field or PMP, Scrum Master, or equivalent certification preferred
