Project Level Compliance Specialist

We have an opening for a Project Level Compliance Specialist in our Wyoming/Montana subregion. The candidate could be remote or hybrid employee located in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana or the Dakotas. The candidate chosen to fill this position will lead and oversee compliance efforts for preconstruction planning, construction, and post-construction operations and maintenance in the mining, transmission, power generation, and oil and gas markets. This position requires leadership, business development, and project delivery expertise in a vast array of services associated with environmental compliance in multiple markets. We seek a self-motivated individual who can work independently and collaborate with local leadership to manage our current compliance portfolio, write critical compliance reports, and help expand SWCA’s Wyoming/Montana and neighboring areas' market presence.  This will be a full-time, regular (with benefits) position.

Under this job requisition, we may hire the following job position:

  • Assistant Project Compliance Specialist - Typically with up to three (3) years of relevant experience and expertise.
  • Associate Project Compliance Specialist - Typically with up to three (5) years of relevant experience and expertise.
  • Project Compliance Specialist - Typically with up to three (7) years of relevant experience and expertise.

What you will accomplish

  • Manage and lead environmental compliance team and project teams working on a range of small to large infrastructure projects.
  • Provide professional regulatory and permitting guidance expertise to external clients and internal team members, including Clean Water Act Section 402, National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permitting and compliance activities.
  • Prepare various environmental and regulatory permit applications for Federal, State, and local agencies.
  • Serve as the regulatory/permit compliance liaison between agencies and clients.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with diverse project stakeholders, including regulatory agents, field crews, trade workers, and third parties regarding project status, schedules, and compliance issues.
  • Build new relationships and supporting the development of client capture plans.
  • Lead projects in Wyoming/Montana and neighboring areas.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required

  • A minimum of three (3) years of related experience in the compliance field or five (5) years of experience without a college degree.
  • Experience in renewable energy generation and/or transmission, mining, and/or oil and gas.
  • Experience in developing and managing National Pollutant Discharge Eliminations System and state equivalent permits, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), and spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) plans.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word).
  • Experience participating in audits according to local, state, and federal regulations.

Preferred or Helpful

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field helpful
  • Professional Erosion and Sedimentation Control certification
  • A solution-driven attitude
  • Proven experience in building new relationships and developing client capture plans.
  • Project management experience in Wyoming, Montana or the West
  • Experience working with large infrastructure and/or design build projects, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate in writing, verbally, and graphically.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting laws and processes.

An employee in this Sheridan, WY based position can expect a salaried rate $63,020 - $95,680 annually. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
