About The Role

The Sustainable Finance Project Lead drive change in Canada’s financial sector by leveraging resources in litigation, law reform, and strategic communications opportunities. In this role, you will work under the Climate Program Director to coordinate an interdisciplinary team in the pursuit of aligning financial institutions with climate goals. The Project team will advocate for fossil fuel divestment, challenge fossil fuel subsidies, and shape the future of sustainable finance in Canada.

Responsibilities

As the Sustainable Finance Project Lead, you will:

  • Oversee the development of project plans, budgets, deliverables, and milestones to support impactful legal, political, and communications strategies
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams with emotional intelligence, providing constructive feedback, and promoting inclusive practices
  • Follow global developments in sustainable finance, tracking and analyzing relevant legislation and policy initiatives to inform our strategies
  • Collaborate with the communications and philanthropy teams to ensure that project goals and progress are effectively communicated to our staff, donors, policy makers, and the public
  • Publicly represent Ecojustice’s work in Sustainable Finance, including translating complex issues into accessible terms for broader understanding
  • Work in good relations with Indigenous leaders and communities to inform shared policy recommendations.
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset but not required

Role Success

Typically, we find that people who succeed in this role bring:

  • At least 5 years of experience in law, law reform, government policy, finance, financial regulation, or other combination of relevant experience
  • Strong understanding of sustainable finance concepts such as ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and related frameworks
  • Demonstrated project management experience with progressively complex projects and interdisciplinary team management
  • Deep understanding of campaign strategies, public policy and government systems
  • Strong professional communication skills including public communication
  • Strong relationship management skills, effective communication, and a proven track record of building and maintaining positive professional relationships
