Project/Lead Civil Engineer

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project or Lead Civil Engineer to work from our Pittsburgh, PA office.  Our Pittsburgh group is growing and in need of a Civil Engineer to assist with erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management design, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for our oil and gas and renewables projects. Projects will include sites in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and support of other projects across the U.S. The position will entail travel and short-term overnight efforts to collect field data and meet with clients (between 10-25%). This is a full-time, permanent, benefits eligible position that can be worked in a hybrid/remote capacity.

We are seeking a skilled Civil Engineer who has experience in civil site design, erosion and sediment control design, stormwater management design, and project management. The ideal candidate must have a strong skill set managing junior level staff and have experience with business development.  The position will also require coordination with multiple disciplines including: CAD designers, GIS analysts, environmental biologists, and other engineers, as well as regular interaction with regulatory agencies, municipalities, and clients.

What you will accomplish

• Lead engineering design and development of construction drawings.
• Support the engineering needs of regional SWCA offices.
• Work with the engineering team across the SWCA offices to balance workloads and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Perform technical reviews of project deliverables to assure consistency and accuracy and assist with Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
• Ability to work independently and with other Project Managers and multi-task regularly in a fast-paced environment with multiple changes; work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Be able to identify opportunities and prospects through existing and new relationships with clients; attend professional networking groups and through collaboration with other SWCA offices.

Experience and qualifications for success

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• A minimum of (7) Seven years of experience in civil engineering.
• Professional Engineer License in the state of Pennsylvania, or the ability to obtain via reciprocity.
• Prior work experience in one or more of the following states: Ohio, and West Virginia.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in civil/stormwater design.
• Additional PE License in surrounding Pennsylvania states.
• Prior experience in supporting development of proposals, business development, and client management.

This position is available at the below levels and title will be based on years of relevant experience or expertise:

• Project Civil Engineer - typically at least 7 years of related experience or expertise
• Lead Civil Engineer - typically at least 8 years of related experience or expertise

An employee in this Pittsburgh, PA based position can expect an annual salary of $87,360.00–$112,320.00/year for the Project Civil Engineer role and an annual salary range of $98,800.00-$126,880.00 for the Lead Civil Engineer role. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
