Innovative Human Rights NGO Seeks Project Coordinator for the Refugee Youth Network (RYN)
About Asylum Access
We are human rights advocates who support forcibly displaced individuals and communities as they reclaim their rights, agency and power. Our unique combination of legal empowerment, policy advocacy and global systems change creates conditions in which refugees can live safely, move freely, work legally and go to school. Our work transforms the traditional approach of endless humanitarian handouts to a sustainable solution that honours refugees’ freedom, dignity and autonomy, and equips them to make choices about their own lives.
Asylum Access’ global team and family of local civil society organisations advocate to make human rights a reality for refugees throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America. Our national organisations are led and staffed primarily by community members in those countries, and there is strong mutual trust and respect between us and our clients. On the international stage, we work with established institutions to shift the global system to better uphold and promote refugees’ human rights. We can help catalyse and lead systemic transformation because, uniquely among NGOs in the refugee response sector, we focus exclusively on rights and governance.
Project Description
The Refugee Youth Network (RYN) is an independent project funded by Asylum Access Malaysia. RYN believes in the power of refugee youth in bringing about systemic change for refugees in Malaysia. Established in November 2021 by a team of refugee youth leaders across 5 different communities in an effort to address the glaring gap in youth representation within the refugee response system in Malaysia, RYN seeks to create a platform to mobilise, empower and offer peer support to refugee youth across Malaysia. RYN aims to provide the tools, knowledge, and skills to enable refugee youth to take action and to address their needs and the needs of their community. These areas of focus include legal empowerment, mental health support, education, and other capacity-building support. As a pioneer refugee youth-led network in Malaysia, our goal is to empower youth to create systemic change and take the lead in advancing refugee rights in Malaysia.
Position Description
The Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the programs and activities of RYN, organise capacity-building training, oversee the implementation of the mental health program, increase involvement of refugee youth through community engagements, needs assessment, and data collection, as well as ensure meaningful participation of refugee youth throughout the project period.
