Overview

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is an international nonprofit environmental organization with more than 3 million members and online supporters. Since 1970, our lawyers, scientists, and other environmental specialists have worked to protect the world's natural resources, public health, and the environment. For over two decades, the NRDC has worked in China as a thought leader and trusted adviser to our partners. With a highly effective team of more than 40 members based in our Beijing office, we have worked hard at both the national and local levels to recommend, develop, and support the implementation of innovative laws, policies, technologies, and market tools that curb pollution and accelerate China’s transition to a clean, low-carbon economy. NRDC's Beijing Representative Office is registered under the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and supervised by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China in accordance with applicable laws.

NRDC is seeking a Project Coordinator to work with the China Climate and Energy  team in our Beijing office.

Position Summary

The Project Coordinator  will be responsible for supporting the team with event management, research, and project administration. The PC will take ownership of all the details involved in executing a variety of events that the Coal Cap Project organizes throughout the year, including report launches, high-level salons, and our flagship event, the annual coal cap workshop.

Responsibilities

Event Management

  • Oversee the planning and execution of all event logistics. This includes, but is not limited to, booking venues, scheduling and leading meetings with vendors and colleagues, providing guidance on meeting materials, communicating with key contact personnel when necessary, managing the execution of a program on the day of the event, and managing the execution of post-event wrap-up.
  • Research event-related vendors (catering, online streaming, interpreters, etc.) and manage a roster of vendors to ensure that the most cost-effective service is provided
  • Manage expenses for each event, creating request for proposals (RFPs), obtaining quotes, and seeking guidance from leadership when needed.

Administration

  • Coordinate employee travel: provide travel information to employees, book hotels and flights/trains, register attendees for conferences, training, etc.
  • Maintain project contract and document library, ensuring project files (both electronic and paper) are well organized and up-to-date.
  • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by team leaders, and support colleagues as needed.

Research

  • Support the Project Manager in preparing policy analysis, progress updates and annual work plans.
  • Assist to review and proofread research reports of partners, press releases, and blogs in both English and Chinese.
  • Provide other support to data collection, literature review, translation, etc.

Qualifications

Required

  • Commitment to NRDC’s mission and values
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • High level of social skills to build and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally
  • Excellent organization skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience with organizing meetings on online meeting platforms

Preferred

  • Experience in marketing and event planning with proven success
  • Familiarity with China’s climate change and energy policies and issues
