Position Summary
IREX Albania is recruiting a Project Closeout Consultant to support the finalization of activities for two programs currently being implemented in Albania: Learn to Discern Albania (L2D-Albania) and the Youth Reporting Albania Program (Youth-RAP). With oversight from IREX’s project team, the Project Closeout Consultant will supervise and mentor project staff and consultants, represent IREX and IREX programs to key stakeholders, and oversee monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program activities. The selected candidate is expected to participate in regular meetings with IREX staff and may be asked to facilitate reflection discussions with project participants.
Project Descriptions
Learn to Discern Albania (L2D-Albania) aims to increase the Albanian population’s ability to navigate today’s polluted information environment by building and testing tools for resilience to mis- and disinformation and manipulative content by developing critical and analytical thinking skills. L2D is improving Albanians’ ability to: differentiate between fact and opinion and recognize objective, fact-based reporting; recognize and reject hate speech and other biased information; verify content validity; and engage in responsible information generation and sharing behaviors.
Youth Reporting Albania Program (Youth RAP) works to equip Albanian youth aged 15-25 with tools to analyze the information they consume; empower and amplify diverse youth citizen journalists whose contributions to the information space will improve their communities; and facilitate civic participation by engaging youth on issues of interest with platforms to advocate for and produce content about them.
Duration: December 2022 – February 2023. This could be between 20 and 35 hours per week with some flexibility. The nature of the position may change at IREX’s discretion and in negotiation with the selected candidate. Candidates must be able to commit to the entire duration of this vacancy.
Tasks and Deliverables
Illustrative tasks and deliverables may consist of the following and will be completed in close cooperation with the IREX project team(s):
Supervise and mentor project staff and consultants and work in close coordination with IREX’s home office,
Represent IREX and IREX programs and interests in Albania to key stakeholders,
Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program activities,
Other administrative and programmatic duties, as needed
Provide strategic and technical management for the planning and delivery of 6 (six) training sessions for teachers,
Lead preparations for and facilitation of a round table with relevant education institutions in Albania to share IREX’s work with teachers and students and present newly developed tools for integrating media literacy components in education,
Provide strategic and technical management for the planning and delivery of 3 (three) regional showcase events,
Lead efforts to increase the visibility of the Vertet i Verifikuar online course on media literacy among Albanian youth,
Lead efforts to motivate youth to contribute as citizen journalists through their own social media channels and those of local youth organizations.
Oversee and monitor the rollout of all the above activities,
Contribute to reporting processes, as needed.
These deliverables may be modified with the agreement of both parties if necessary. Specific deliverables will be determined and listed in the final agreement.
Qualifications:
University degree in a relevant field (social sciences, journalism, education, psychology, management, or other related fields)
Professional experience with project management and implementation of activities,
Professional experience with international and/or national non-governmental organizations,
Familiarity with the Albanian context on media and youth,
Ability to communicate professionally and provide written reporting in both Albanian and English is required,
Excellent writing and editing skills in Albanian and English are required,
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet),
Candidates must be able to commit to the full consulting assignment, as outlined under “Duration” above.
The selected candidate will work remotely, unless otherwise agreed.
