Third Generation Environmentalism is hiring a
PROGRAMME OFFICER (SOLUTION BUILDING) – POWERING PAST COAL ALLIANCE
The advertised position is with the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) Secretariat, hosted by E3G and will be based in one of the E3G offices in London, Brussels, Berlin, or in Singapore. The successful candidate will support the work of the PPCA in supporting the development and sharing of practical solutions for a secure, affordable and just transition from coal to clean.
Background
The Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) is a global coalition of national and subnational governments, businesses and organisations working to advance the transition away from unabated coal power generation. Since its creation in 2017, the PPCA has grown to over 180 members and become a driving force behind global efforts to phase out coal power. The growing number of members taking ambitious action help us demonstrate that the shift is necessary, inevitable and beneficial, not only for the climate, but also for long-term prosperity and security.
An important function of the PPCA Secretariat is to support its members as well as other governments with expertise sharing on practical solutions that enable them to advance on preventing new coal capacity, planning for a coal phase-out, and retiring operating coal plants. These solutions focus on financing of the coal to clean transition, ensuring energy security, and enabling a just transition. The Secretariat works with partners and experts from governments, industry, academia, and civil society to bring forward successful solutions, share best practices, and connect governments with the support and resources that are available. Some of this work is done through the Coal Transition Commission, which is one pillar of the Coal Transition Accelerator initiative launched by France in the presence of several partner countries and international financial institutions at COP28 in Dubai. The Commission aims to develop practical policy solutions to accelerate coal transitions globally.
You will be part of a small, highly dynamic, impact-driven international team of the PPCA Secretariat. You will also have an opportunity to closely collaborate with experts, partner organizations, the co-chair governments of Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as other members of the PPCA. This role will report into the PPCA’s expert adviser who leads our work on solution development.
