About the role
The focus of the role is managing, training and supporting international volunteers, as well as leading all activities in the conservation program. Activities include bird and butterfly surveys, beach cleans, micro and macro plastic surveys, leading snorkelling surveys as well as working with our main partner, The Royal Thai Navy, where we work at their Turtle Conservation Centre. And since conservation starts with education, we also facilitate weekly lessons at a partner school which helps us achieve this goal. This is a position which requires a significant degree of initiative and leadership as well as the drive to take ownership of the conservation
Role and responsibilities:
Assist in the day-to-day responsibilities of the program, including Health and Safety, research and community programs, and volunteer management and motivation. This includes acting as staff on duty on some weekends, and supporting the staff team with base duties
In collaboration with the Program Manager, organise the daily and weekly schedule to ensure that all required tasks, surveys and community activities are carried out
Assist in collecting, organizing and recording of project data, as well as overseeing the writing of research reports
Training: Ensure proper training of volunteers is carried out, including classroom sessions/presentations and in-the-field training, as well as coordinate the training of new staff members
Conduct mentor meetings bi-weekly
Schedule internship activities and training
Organise and assist with field trips and activities with volunteers. This includes survey work, community events, GVI-led recreational activities such as waterfall hikes,, social nights or cultural reflection activities
Assist the Program Manager and Regional Director to continuously seek to improve the quality of the program for volunteers. This might include such things as extra activities, training opportunities, base improvements or expansion, services or project resources.
