Summary of Position:
The Solidarity Center seeks a full-time Program Officer in Bahrain for one year, with the possibility of extension contingent on funding, to work on programs in the Persian Gulf countries. The full-time Program Officer shall report directly to the Gulf Country Program Director (CPD). The basic responsibility of this position is to ensure effective coordination and implementation of programs that assist independent unions, migrant worker communities, and labor/worker support organizations in Bahrain and help develop programs with Solidarity Center partners.
Responsibilities:
Provide logistical support for successful program implementation, including arrangements such as making hotel and other travel reservations for participants, and purchasing program materials.
Closely coordinate with partners and migrant worker leaders to ensure timely implementation of project activities.
Attend meetings and conduct outreach to supportive organizations (women, civic, legal, and economic development).
Conduct regular meetings with migrant worker volunteers to collect, record, and respond to worker rights cases.
Develop & maintain relationships with leaders and activists in the worker rights and human rights field in Kuwait and Bahrain.
Assist in the design and implementation of specific educational/training programs in cooperation with unions and/or partners, including arranging and organizing workshops, meetings, and seminars.
Promote cooperation between labor support organizations, unions, and other groups to further trade union/worker goals.
Keep track of expenses and submit to Washington HQ on a monthly basis.
Provide timely information to Washington HQ on program activities and results in the proper format for reporting purposes.
Provide updated information to Washington HQ regarding workers, trade union structures, resources, and political updates in the region.
Any other tasks as designated by the Regional Program Director which are related to the successful completion of current funding awards.
