Position Summary:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Basketball Camp Instructor to lead our morning programming. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about basketball and youth development. The instructor will create a positive and engaging environment, teaching fundamental skills and fostering teamwork among campers.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Skill Development: Teach basketball fundamentals, including dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense to campers of varying skill levels.

  • Drills and Activities: Plan and implement daily drills and activities that enhance players' skills while promoting physical fitness and teamwork.

  • Positive Environment: Foster a supportive and fun atmosphere where campers feel encouraged to learn and grow.

  • Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers during activities and transitions.

  • Communication: Engage with campers and parents to provide updates on progress and any relevant camp information.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other instructors and staff to coordinate schedules, activities, and special events.

  • Feedback: Provide constructive feedback to campers to help them improve their skills and confidence.

  • Behavior Management: Address any behavioral issues promptly and effectively, promoting respect and sportsmanship

  • Provide direct supervision of students enrolled in the before school programs and promote the values of Youth Guidance and your assigned

  • Maintain behavioral expectations for students in keeping with established methods and procedures.

  • Assist in the distribution of program information and publications used to promote the programs and various enrichment programs as offered.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and coaching techniques.
  • Previous experience working with youth in a sports or camp setting preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and inspire young athletes.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to camp start).
  • A passion for sports, teaching, and mentoring young players.
  • Flexible availability to work morning hours (typically [7 AM - 8 AM).

Education/Experience/Training

  • Must have minimum of High school Diploma or Bachelor’s degree or student

working towards a degree preferred.

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to understand the policies, procedures, and general organizational structure of the Chicago Public Schools.
  • Ability to be proactive with projects and follow through in a timely manner with an end result that adheres to the Resource Coordinators vision.
  • Ability to be flexible with program assignments and make changes to projects and proposals on the fly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Proficient in conflict
