SWCA is currently seeking a Principal Project Manager – Mining to join our nationwide Mining Team. Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in supporting environmental opportunities within the precious, base, industrial and rare earths markets.

What you will accomplish

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in mining and related environmental services (e.g., studies, permitting, NEPA, operation support, and closure).
  • Manage large and/or complex mine permitting, owner’s environmental, NEPA and closure/reclamation support projects, providing senior oversight and quality control for project deliverables.
  • Offer technical, planning, and permitting expertise and guidance to SWCA staff in the southeast and across the U.S.
  • Serve as client technical manager for key clients, taking a lead and collaborative role in pursuing project opportunities across the region.
  • Assist with development of key, high growth/high value mining opportunity and sales within the Central/East Region and market development.
  • Foster, expand, and leverage a network of excellent client and stakeholder relationships with a focused set of mining industry organizations consistent with our growth strategy and trajectory.
  • Further advance our reputation for supporting mining projects which are some of the world’s most challenging and complex projects.
  • Drive innovation within the sector and track developments in the mining industry to stay to differentiate SWCA in the market.
  • Meet business overall project budgets and schedules, client satisfaction/expectations, and internal risk management and contractual requirements.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, or related technical field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of project management experience in the mining industry.
  • Strong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS Office.
  • A working understanding of agency internal processes and procedures and with federal land management and regulatory agencies, such as the BLM, USFS, NPS, BOR, DOE, DOT, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).
  • Strong business development skills as a “seller/doer” to develop productive business relationships with agency, client, and industry contacts.

SWCA is committed to salary equity and salary transparency for all its employees.  In alignment with this commitment, SWCA posts good faith pay ranges in all its advertised job postings to promote pay equity and transparency.

An employee in this Raleigh-based position can expect a salary of $105,000–$138,000/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
