SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding our team and actively looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work. Our New Mexico/Four Corners team is looking for a self-motivated Principal Project Manager-Mining with attention to detail and strong communication skills.
Individuals need to be willing and able to work with peers across various offices and accomplish tasks associated with a variety of projects in any given week. The ability to work directly with clients is imperative. The interest in pursuing new business is also desirable.
This is a permanent full-time, salaried position, reporting to our Natural Resources Director, reporting to the Albuquerque, NM office location. Remote work will be considered for the right candidate.

What you will accomplish
- Independently leads projects from start to finish (long duration, very high dollar, very high complexity,
multidisciplinary projects)
- Performs (or delegates) all management tasks and maintains strong project key performance indicators
(KPIs)
- Sets strategy for project delivery at regional to national level
- Has ultimate project deliverable ownership and ensures conformity with client requirements and QA/QC
processes
- Executes project work through regional or national, multi-layered teams
- Works with operations leaders in determining project staffing needs and recommending personnel
- Develops, tracks, updates, forecasts, and modifies project schedules and budgets throughout all phases
of a project
- Demonstrates expert regulatory knowledge across multiple disciplines and applies knowledge to set
project or program strategy
- Drives risk management
- Represents clients at public and/or agency meetings and hearings
- Builds and maintains relationships with regulators
- Forges industry partnerships
- Advises clients on project or program strategy
- Serves as a client manager or key contact for client at upper levels within client organization
- Anticipates market trends and positions SWCA for success
- Finds opportunities and drives sales for repeat and new business
- Leads large, multidisciplinary, and sometimes national proposals
- Leads MSA management and negotiation
- Develops standards and best practices for management for the region or nationally
- Identifies strategic hires
- May supervise; coaches others across offices to manage
- Actively oversees the preparation and implementation of the safety plan
Experience and qualifications for success
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field.
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in environmental consulting to include complex, multi-disciplinary projects; leading meetings with clients and agencies; directing project teams including subcontractors; preparing or directing staff in the preparation of technical studies and NEPA documents; and setting and adhering to project budgets and delivery schedules.
- Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations including NEPA, the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Secretarial Order 3355, and the ability to develop project execution plans to satisfy regulatory compliance.
- A working understanding of agency internal processes and procedures and positive existing relationships with regulatory agencies in New Mexico and other regional states.
- Experience with public lands, natural resource issues, and mining projects in the Western U.S.
- Ability to be recognized by clients and agencies as a NEPA project manager.
PREFERRED or HELPFUL
- Experience managing the development of planning documents, and NEPA documents, including environmental impact statements (EIS).

An employee in this Albuquerque, NM-based position can expect a salary of $105,040-$138,320_/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law._ Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
