As a result of recent continuing growth and a strong pipeline of exciting new projects, Ethos Urban is seeking experienced economics professionals of 4+ years’ experience to join our economics team as a Principal - Economics.

We are also happy to take applications from people in a relevant allied economic role (such as within Government) with 7+ years' experience who are seeking to adjust their career path into economic consulting.

Our collaborative way of working is what makes us different. Our teams are multidisciplinary and fluid, so you will work on varied projects with a range of talented urban professionals – continuing to learn and share your insights for the best client outcomes.

The Ethos Urban Economics team is a leading consultancy in the economic analysis of people, places and spaces.  Our practical approach to urban and regional economic analysis is focused on providing private and public sector clients with robust advice that informs decision-making.

We work with developers, investors, policy makers, businesses, peak bodies, Government departments and agencies, and many other entities seeking advice on how economics applies to their real-world issues.

We undertake a wide variety of assignments, from detailed land use analysis through to advice on the economic impact of major infrastructure projects (including renewable energy).

Our role

We are seeking candidates with an economics background who are strong lateral thinkers, with an ability to apply their skills to real-world land use and development issues.

The role will suit a talented professional seeking to advance a career in economic consulting within a dynamic team environment.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop a broad skillset through working side by side with economists, town planners, urban designers, social planners, and community & stakeholder engagement professionals.
  • Have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of National / Sydney’s most complex urban projects – from conceptualisation through to approval and delivery.
  • Work with and learn from some of the best economic and urban professionals in the business.
  • Enjoy working with a wide variety of clients including major landowners, state and local government authorities and agencies, and corporate developers.
  • Participate in all aspects of economics from proposal writing, research & analysis, preparation of advice and client liaison.

**About you

**

Our ideal candidate is an individual who is passionate about economic research and its practical application, and can thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

The role can be tailored to suit those establishing within 4+ years of an economic consulting career looking for a fresh perspective through to those with 7+ years of experience in an allied economics position (such as within Government) looking to adjust their career path into a consulting role.

Our ideal candidate will be driven, proactive and results orientated with a focus on achieving the best results for our clients. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following capabilities:

  • A demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • A tertiary qualification in economics (highly preferred) or property, urban planning or related degree/discipline.
  • A minimum 4+ years’ experience within an economic consulting role or 7+ years in a relevant allied economic role (such as within Government)
  • Experience in researching, sourcing, manipulating and analysing statistical information as well as monitoring and reporting on spatial and economic trends.
  • Technical understanding of the interrelationship between land use planning, economics and property.
  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • High level of verbal and written communication, including public presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Effective planning & organising skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel on occasion in order to meet project and client needs (drivers licence essential).
  • Adaptability & flexibility in working with, and across, teams and functions.
  • A professional commitment to striving for excellence.
  • Mentoring and leadership skills highly regarded.
  • Experience with geographical information systems (GIS) highly regarded.
  • Proven experience undertaking economic impact assessments for infrastructure projects (including renewable energy) and knowledge of how economics can support approvals pathways for major projects will also be very highly regarded
