About the role
The Principal Ecologist will provide experienced guidance, technical advice, input, and support to projects and personnel within the Project Delivery team.
Key roles and responsibilities:
· Accountable for the quality, coordination, resourcing and programming of a diverse range of projects across the team
· Leading and managing on budgets, SHEQ KPIs and deadlines, providing a high level of technical expertise and support across the company
· Technical review and input of all written client deliverables, e.g., mitigation licence applications, management plans, ecological reports, bids and quotations
· Reporting on project risk management to the Senior Leadership Team
· Representing Ecosulis at all external stakeholder meetings including clients, public and statutory bodies
· Leading and developing in-house junior ecologists and interns by coaching and mentoring on technical issues to strengthen the team.
· Undertake site surveys.
· Effectively & proactively leading weekly team Level 10 meeting.
· Provide technical expert ecological guidance to the wider Ecosulis team where necessary.
About you
As well as having high attention to quality and detail, you will have the ability to multi-task and work proactively and flexibly in a dynamic environment, whilst possessing strong prioritisation and organisation skills. Excellent client and stakeholder engagement skills would make you a desirable fit for this position.
Other key skills and experience required:
· Excellent knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation and policy and of applying relevant guidance for surveys
· Detailed knowledge of ecological & rewilding principles, biodiversity metrics, relevant environmental and ecological impact assessment (EcIA) legislation, policy and guidance
· Proven track record in writing and delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), writing and/or delivering Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements which have been successfully consented.
· Excellent commercial and project management skills for a range of project sizes
· Experience of technical & quality review of a full suite of ecological reports
Experience in line management and leading a team would be advantageous.

· Salary: £40,000 - £50,000
· Location: The role will be home based with travel to site, client meetings and management meetings as needed.
A full UK driving licence and use of own vehicle will be required for this position.
