Role purpose

Ricardo are seeking to further strengthen its climate change team, by appointing an experienced climate change consultant to make a leading contribution to our growth across the business.

Our current team already supports major projects for Governments internationally, including the development of climate action plans such Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-term low emissions development strategies (LTS), the design of climate policies and the implementation of low carbon technology programmes. Our team includes knowledge leaders in GHG emissions inventories, transparency systems, climate action planning and carbon pricing mechanisms. We work at both national and city level.

We are now expanding our team so that we can further support counties and cities with the implementation of their climate plans and are looking for someone to lead the development of this market for us, working with and building on our existing track record and our delivery teams.

About You

We are looking for a technical consultant and business leader, with a proven track record, to help lead, shape and grow our business internationally.  You are likely to be an experienced climate change consultant with:

  • the ability to contribute to our business development working with colleagues to build relationships with key clients, identify and develop new opportunities, write proposals and secure new wins.
  • extensive track record of delivering climate change mitigation consultancy projects;
  • deep knowledge of the technical aspects of climate change mitigation, including expertise in specific technologies;
  • a good understanding of the international mechanisms and processes for financing project implementation, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF)
  • an extensive network of relevant contacts in the environment sector.

You will be expected to develop and implement a business strategy for growing our work internationally in the area of climate change project implementation. You will be comfortable engaging with a wide range of potential clients and market stakeholders, building on your existing network and reputation and leveraging Ricardo’s wider internationally recognised capabilities and expertise to identify and secure new business opportunities.

You will lead on proposals, defining quality outcomes, pricing, budget and scope; and be responsible for developing a portfolio of work providing clear project direction which reflects our reputation for high quality solutions. Project delivery will initially be through our existing staff, with additional recruitment planned as the  portfolio of work grows.

Most importantly you will have the drive and determination to succeed and must be comfortable working at Senior level in a consultancy environment.

Key competencies and experience

  • Proven experience of working in an environmental consultancy, with a firm grasp of climate change project implementation
  • A proven track record of developing profitable new and existing business is also a key requirement
  • A Bachelors, Masters or PhD in a relevant discipline and/or exceptional and demonstratable track record
  • Extensive knowledge and experience supporting the implementation of climate change mitigation projects including, ideally, the preparation of GCF concept notes.
  • Have personal drive and determination to succeed, be self-determining and able to positively contribute to the business in a consultancy environment.
  • Extensive technical experience alongside a strong track record in client relationship management.
  • Ability to direct projects and delivery of client outcomes.
  • Proven experience of leading large complex bids including the management of bid teams, development of methodology and presentation and developing follow-on work with customers and creating new business opportunities.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral
