NRDC is seeking a Press Secretary to work with the Media team in our Washington, D.C. office.
Position Summary
NRDC is seeking a Press Secretary to work with the Communications team from our Washington, DC office. The position occupies a key role in the Communications team, projecting NRDC and its positions on a wide variety of environmental issues. The target audiences include media that reach not only the general public but also the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court, as well as interest groups and stakeholders.
The position will promote a wide array of issues within NRDC’s federal agenda, which could include issues around climate change, clean air, clean water, clean energy, transportation, and health issues. The position will focus on developing and executing media strategies to advance our legislative, Administrative, and international policy solutions. The position reports directly to NRDC’s Senior Media Director to develop proactive communications plans, messaging strategy and press materials that achieve media results, support advocacy goals and promote NRDC’s experts as leaders in local, regional and national, and international environmental policy, litigation, and advocacy space. The position sits within the institution’s media team, focused primarily on press outreach, but working in close coordination with communications professionals employing a variety of tools to elevate NRDC’s profile, as well as attract new supporters and allies to our advocacy efforts. This individual must possess a strong work ethic and commitment to NRDC’s core values and mission. They will identify and work with local, national, and sometimes international, media outlets and cultivate relationships with reporters, bloggers, editors and other media professionals to publicize and communicate NRDC’s strategic priorities. The position will also coordinate closely with various coalitions to advance NRDC’s work.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary is $100,000 to $104,000. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.
Since March 2020, NRDC’s offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be associated with one of our offices, but until circumstances allow us to re-open, we will continue to support NRDCers with remote working arrangements.
