DNV – Energy’s Energy Advisory group has an exciting opportunity for a Power Systems Engineer, in its Power System Advisory (PSA) Department. DNV Energy’s PSA team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Power System Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth and evolution of the PSA business in North America. The ideal candidate will be aware of market opportunities where we can differentiate and innovate, and they will manage commercial projects, delivering technical insight and provide customers with excellent customer service.
This position may be based out of our Dallas, TX office. Consideration maybe given to Katy (TX); Portland (OR); Medford (MA).
What You’ll Do
- Perform steady state, dynamic, short-circuit and/or PSCAD model development for renewable and conventional generation resources including Solar, Storage, Wind and Gas turbines
- Perform model system wide power flow analysis including steady-state, dynamic stability and short-circuit analysis
- Perform due diligence for M&A projects by reviewing interconnection documents from data room and identify the risk associated
- Complete interconnection applications and supporting documentation for projects in various RTOs (CAISO, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, SPP) and vertically integrated markets (WECC, SERC etc.)
- Evaluate transmission & interconnection tariffs, costs, timelines, queue, and processes for a variety of markets and provide strategy to our stakeholders
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for area(s) related to grid reliability and/or energy markets
- Actively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changes
- Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements
- Cultivate new customer relationships, and assist in preparing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP) and provide Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for new tenders/bids/opportunities
Position Qualifications
What is Required
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical engineering or related field
- In-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy
- 1 to 3 years of hands-on experiences with power-system tools PSS/E, Power-world, PSLF and PSCAD
- Direct work experience in transmission and/or distribution planning related analyses in transmission planning and/or resource interconnection
- Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices including resource integration studies, NERC standards and ISO/RTO resource interconnection model requirements
- Strong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment
What is Preferred
- Graduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages including ASPEN, PSLF, CYME, ETAP, TSAT, TARA Synergie Electric and/or DIGSILENT, EMTP-RV, AUTOCAD AUTODesk
- Track record of project management and/or successful completion of project management related trainings
- 1 to 3 years of experience in resource interconnection working with a consultant
- Working knowledge of software packages like Python or VBA
