Reports to: M4BL Political Strategy and Campaigns Executive

Salary: $88,000 - $103,000 per year with full health benefits for employee and dependents, employer-funded retirement plan, remote work stipend, and 28 days of vacation

Movement for Black Lives

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) is an ecosystem of organizations and individuals creating a shared vision and strategy to win rights, control, and resources for Black people. Building on the legacy and strategies of past movements, the Movement for Black Lives has created a broad political home for Black organizers, activists, and their organizations. Our ecosystem is held together by politics of abolition, anti-capitalism, and radical Black Queer Feminisms and a value system that fights for the most marginalized amongst us.

Position Summary

The Political Strategy and Campaigns Executive Assistant provides stellar administrative support of a substantial and confidential nature, anticipating needs, proactively solving problems, and supporting a high-functioning Political Strategy and Campaigns Executive (PSC). Most of the work requires a high degree of autonomy, without prescribed procedures, and with delegated authority to exercise discretion and judgment, especially in communication with stakeholders. Many objectives, priorities, and demands are typical of this role; details are below. May require work on occasional weekends and evenings as determined.

Essential Functions

Logistics, Planning, and Calendar Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage the PSC Executive’s activities, including:

    • Management of complex calendars
  • Travel arrangements and associated logistics

  • Meetings: independently discern when to commit PSC Exec to meetings based on an in-depth understanding of the priorities of the M4BL

  • Conferences with individuals and entities internal and external to M4BL

  • Scheduling and documentation support for Leadership Bodies of M4BL meetings

  • Organize and manage logistics associated with the PSC executives meetings, retreats, and special events

  • Manage multiple projects: anticipate and track critical dates, expenses, events, and logistical needs

Project Management and Coordination

  • Support the tracking, execution, and evaluation of projects and workflows.
  • Implement project management systems and processes
  • Support research, planning, and coordination for major projects as requested by Political Strategy & Campaigns Executive
  • Act as a project manager on additional initiatives within the PSC Executives’s portfolio.

Correspondence, Documentation & Communication

  • Develop presentation and produce planning doc based on exec portfolio and projects
  • Support the PSC Executive in the management of their email inbox, scheduling appointments, and supporting follow-up activities.
  • Ensure timely acknowledgment of donations via thank you letters and related correspondence.
  • Organize and maintain impeccable electronic filing systems
  • Assist in documentation and submission of purchase receipts and reimbursements

  • Perform duties with high professionalism, flexibility, discretion, judgment, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, Asana, etc.
  • Prior experience in a movement organization
  • Collaborate on projects and initiatives in a fast-paced environment
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong in verbal and written communication

Education and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in policy, political work, or organizing
  • 2-5 years of experience in project management or administration

Under the fundamental idea that we can achieve more together than we can separately.
