IISD’s Resilience Program is a multidisciplinary team of policy researchers and project managers who work with governments, civil society, communities, and businesses to help them manage climate- and conflict-related risks. Its work focuses on planning, people, and nature—preparing for a different or uncertain future, making sure different genders and social groups influence and benefit from investments in resilience, and harnessing the role of ecosystems to help communities manage risks. The Resilience Program undertakes this work in countries around the world.

Responsibilities

Working under the guidance of their manager, the Policy Analyst, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) will provide project coordination, research, and knowledge management support for the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Global Network, as well as the broader GESI-related work of the Resilience Program. This work may include, but not be limited to:

  • Conducting primary and secondary research on GESI and climate change adaptation, with a particular focus on NAP processes.

  • Keeping up to date on emerging issues related to the work of the NAP Global Network.

  • Preparing, presenting, and communicating high-quality research findings to a variety of audiences.

  • Assisting in communicating the work of the program and its components to a broader audience, including attending events and developing outreach materials, such as blogs and brochures.

  • Maintaining contacts with domestic and international project partners.

  • Collaborating with IISD staff, affiliates, partners, and consultants in the design and implementation of projects.

  • Participating in fundraising efforts for the Resilience Program, including contributing to written proposals for funding and other business development materials.

  • Leading the organization and documentation of webinars, meetings, and public consultations as required.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in furthering their knowledge of GESI issues as they relate to resilience and climate change adaptation. They will have strong research skills and be detail-oriented and collaborative.

Qualifications

Please note that our Resilience team works across multiple time zones. We are looking for someone with a “can-do” work attitude who can work autonomously while proactively engaging with other team members.

Qualifications (Essential)

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in international development, gender studies, environmental studies, or another similar area.
  • Availability to periodically travel internationally.
  • Must be currently eligible to work in Canada.

Experience and knowledge (Essential):

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in policy research and project implementation related to GESI or climate change adaptation.
    • Desirable: Work experience in GESI and climate change linkages.
  • Experience reviewing documents and synthesizing information for different purposes.
    • Desirable: Experience developing training materials and/or delivering training.
  • Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.

Skills (Essential)

  • Strong research skills and the ability to become familiar with new topics quickly.
  • Competent in survey development and data analysis.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.
    • Desirable: The ability to work in French and/or Spanish is a strong asset.

Behavioural competencies (Essential)

  • Results-focused; able to work quickly and accurately to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of the results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work comfortably across different cultures and be inclusive, positive, and a good communicator.

Position Details

Location:  Canada, where IISD has offices in Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Toronto

Remote work in other locations may be considered for exceptional candidates.

**Candidates must have the authorization to work in Canada during the time of their employment with IISD. IISD is not able to sponsor work permits.**

Salary: $58,000–$63,000 CAD Annually (based on experience)

Type of employment: One-year contract, with the possibility of renewal
