Third Generation Environmentalism is hiring a
POLICY ADVISOR, UK ENERGY TRANSITIONS (HOUSING), LONDON
E3G – a leading climate and energy think tank – is looking for a politically-minded Policy Advisor to help us accelerate the transition towards clean heat and energy efficient homes. We are looking for a passionate and driven individual with experience in Parliamentary engagement and political advocacy. The role will be based in E3G’s UK energy transition team, with a focus on housing decarbonisation.
Context and overview of role
E3G is an independent climate change think tank accelerating the transition to a climate safe world. We build cross-sectoral coalitions to achieve carefully defined outcomes, chosen for their capacity to leverage change. We work closely with like-minded partners in government, politics, business, civil society, science, the media, public interest foundations and elsewhere.
The cost-of-living crisis has been exacerbated by the cold and leaky nature of our homes. UK households are particularly exposed to the volatile nature of the international fossil gas market due to our high dependence on fossil heating systems, and the leaky nature of our homes. While many of the policy solutions are clear, the political will is often lacking.
Cross-sector collaboration with installers and engineers, energy companies, local delivery partners, financial institutions and NGOs will be critical for developing robust policies and a unified approach. Gaining cross-party political momentum behind ambitious outcomes will be essential for getting policy and financial decisions over the line.
This Policy Advisor position will play a central role in undertaking policy research and political engagement in the run up to the general election and informing the thinking of the next government. The position is offered on a 1-year fixed-term basis with the intention of long-term extension.
Key Responsibilities
Extensive, cross-party MP and Parliamentary engagement and communications; underpinned by political mapping and analysis to inform a tailored and strategic approach. Building and maintaining strong and trusted relationships with MPs and government officials which support ambitious outcomes aligned with our campaign priorities.
Supporting cross-sector coalition work. This includes convening senior industry experts and strengthening alliances, scheduling and organizing meetings, tracking progress, drafting minutes, communicating progress, organising events and drafting reports;
Developing policy positions associated with clean heat and energy efficiency, responding to government consultations and informing E3G’s position on key areas – engaging with stakeholders to seek feedback and inform the development of policy ideas.
Engaging with and helping to convene key stakeholders in government, civil society and the private sector;
Organising and participating in stakeholder discussions and workshops; managing relationships with stakeholders;
Contributing to the wider development of E3G as an organisation;
Travel may be required.
