Policy Advisor, Power System Transition, Brussels

E3G is looking for a Policy Advisor to support our work on power system transition in Europe. The role will focus on building partnerships and evidence base to facilitate infrastructure modernisation and power market transformation. The successful candidate would be based in E3G’s Brussels Office.

Role Overview

E3G’s Clean Economy programme focuses on creating the political conditions to ensure the socio-economic transformation to climate neutrality. In the EU the team focuses on the development of cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder strategies taking account of EU-level and Member States politics.

The Policy Advisor – power system transition will work to create the enabling conditions for fast modernisation of power systems, with focus on grids. The successful candidate will support coalition-building, research and thought leadership and stakeholder engagement activities at EU and Member States level to drive up policy ambition for power system decarbonisation in 2030s, support delivery and encourage the flow of finance to energy system transformation.

The Challenge

• Support E3G's stakeholder engagement, research, advocacy and communications efforts focused on electricity infrastructure and energy vector integration.
• Develop political economy analysis and produce clear internal and external briefing and thought leadership materials.
• Build and maintain stakeholder networks of civil society and business organisations in Brussels and at member state level.
• Engage in coalition-building activities, workshops and convenings on relevant topics.
• Support development of internal analytical tools.
• Occasionally support projects in other relevant areas of E3G's work and contribute to the wider organisational development.

The Profile

You are intellectually curious and enthusiastic about working with others to develop solutions in the transition towards climate neutral and resilient economies. You are a creative thinker, able to learn fast and committed to high quality outputs.

You are comfortable with identifying and engaging external stakeholders to understand their perspectives and communicate ideas. You enjoy working on research projects and are confident in supporting analytical processes. You are able to reflect on yourself and engage constructively with feedback.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Have a degree or professional qualification in a relevant area.
• Have research or work experience in the field of energy (preferably electricity), climate policy, politics, or a related field.
• Strong networking skills and ability to communicate clear, accessible analysis and present ideas both internally and externally.
• Strong analytical and research skills with intellectual curiosity.
• Keen interest of politics, ability to work in multi-cultural environment and commitment to the fight against climate change.
• Demonstrate a high level of initiative and organisation and commitment to delivering high quality work on time.

• The position is paying according to our salary band between 3160€ and 3450€ monthly reference salary (broadly equivalent to €44,000 - €48,000 per year), depending on experience.
