Part-Time Transit Assistance Program (TAP) Coordinator (20 hours per week)

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Sacred Heart Community Service, located in San José, CA, is looking for a Part Time, Non-Exempt, Transit Assistance Program (TAP) Coordinator in the Family Assistance Department. The Family Assistance Department supports community members at risk of displacement through financial assistance, case management, and connections to resources. The TAP Coordinator must be highly organized, and possess an ability to work flexibly and creatively, with a passion for our mission – to change lives and impact poverty. For more than 60 years, Sacred Heart Community Service has been one of the leading institutions in addressing poverty in Santa Clara County through a strategy that combines addressing the consequences of poverty through impactful programs while building power with people advocating for systemic change.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Transit Assistance Program (TAP) is a countywide program provided in partnership with Santa Clara
Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and the County of Santa Clara Social Services Agency to help
low-income households obtain affordable transportation. The Part Time TAP Coordinator supports SHCS’ efforts to develop, administer, and evaluate TAP that provides subsidized monthly bus passes to low income households. The TAP Coordinator is a member of the Family Assistance Team and participates in direct services and other team activities, as needed, and supports efforts to engage members in community organizing and policy advocacy initiatives related to housing and homelessness.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
TAP Program (80-90%)
●Administers monthly TAP passes, including reviewing applications, collecting payment, counting correct change, and filling out receipts.
●Coordinates with multiple programs at Sacred Heart Community Service to maintain an active list of eligible TAP participants.
●Supports the creation and maintenance of TAP documents, including policies and procedures and program forms.
●Completes monthly reconciliation of TAP passes.
●Conducts data entry into internal agency and VTA network databases.
●Train and supervise volunteers and interns, and support the development of their organizational and community leadership.
Family Assistance (5-10%)
●Works collaboratively to develop and implement efforts to ensure member involvement and leadership development within the Family Assistance department.
●Identifies and engages members, including connecting people to organizing committees, conducting 1:1 conversations, and assessing and implementing community engagement opportunities with volunteers and people receiving housing assistance.
●Engages and develops program volunteers by providing education, training, feedback, and support.
●Participates in staff and team development activities, and engage in continuous learning, evaluation, and professional development.
Agency Participation and Leadership (5-10%)
●Support the planning of and participation in team and agency-wide meetings, events, and outreach efforts.
●Attends staff meetings, retreats, and other team and other mandatory organization events.
●Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
●Strong commitment to our vision of a community united to ensure every child and adult is free from poverty.
●Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field or equivalent work experience in a related field.
●Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deliver challenging messages with empathy and respect, and an interest in serving individuals from diverse backgrounds experiencing high-stress situations.
●Outstanding customer service skills.
●Ability to thrive in a flexible, compassionate, supportive fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive, solution-oriented approach.
●Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to work independently with limited supervision when necessary.
●Ability to work two weekend days on occasion especially during April, November, December.
●The TAP Coordinator’s standard working hours are Monday to Thursday in person at the agency’s 1381 South First Street location.
●The position requires computer use for up to 5 hours per day. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable individuals with differing abilities to perform essential functions.
●Must complete a DMV and a background check and qualify to be insured under the Sacred
Heart Community Service driving policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
●Bilingual/biliterate (Spanish, Vietnamese, or Chinese).
●1-2 years’ experience using Salesforce, HMIS, VTA database.
●1-2 years’ experience coordinating projects and creating policy and procedures.
●Experience collecting large amounts of cash payments.
Position is non-exempt, part-time and reports to the Family Assistance Manager. Work hours are normally 8:30am-1:30pm, Monday through Thursday. .
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Family Assistance Communication Coordinator reports to the Family Assistance Manager (Intake & Eligibility).
COMPENSATION:
This is a part-time non-exempt, hourly position, starting at $25 an hour.
