Position Summary
Accion’s Legal Department oversees Legal, Compliance and Risk management functions for Accion and its affiliates and subsidiaries. Accion is seeking a part-time Junior Paralegal/ Legal Operations to support these Legal Department activities starting.
The position requires a commitment to work three or more days per week up to 20 hours, including at least two days onsite from our office in downtown Washington, D.C.
Position Responsibilities
- Update and maintain department reporting system relating to contracts, corporate entities, and document productions;
- Update and maintain recordkeeping for law firm engagements and relationships;
- Organize and maintain electronic and paper files, including contracts and corporate documents;
- Organize, prepare, and edit ancillary documentation and presentation materials;
- Organize and maintain files relating to Trademark Notices;
- Support process to obtain apostilles, legalizations, consularizations, and notarizations of documents;
- Conduct research and support Legal, Risk, and Compliance functions on special projects, as needed;
- Assist with updating and maintaining content on various pages of the Accion Intranet;
- Prepare and track international and domestic shipments;
- Maintain and order supplies needed for legal projects;
- Support implementation of department technology initiatives; and
- Provide general support to Legal Department, including preparation of routine correspondence and materials, meeting organization, and other requests, as needed.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 2 (or more) years of experience supporting law firm or in-house legal department or other relevant experience or equivalent;
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to support workload of busy Legal, Risk, and Compliance functions
- Strong communication skills, including excellent oral and written English language skills and ability to communicate ideas effectively
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently
- Must be able to work courteously and patiently with others, demonstrating an enthusiastic, positive, can-do attitude
- High-level of initiative and motivation in addition to the ability to maintain confidential information
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 including SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Previous experience with Smartsheet and Adobe Pro a plus
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus
- Demonstrated interest in nonprofit law or impact investing is a plus
